Tried the teeth again with all the dirt removed. It is much better but there is still a small bit of wiggling. Over time, the space will get filled with dirt and it will make it fit snug on the shanks... so it should be good

You need to take your DSLR and 400mm lens out there in the woods with you when you go. Just joking of course, as I , have many times, wished I had my other hobby's stuff with me - AKA camera and lenses. I have been out in the woods and thought someone was up in the trees with a hammer banging on the wood. Looked up and it was a Pileated woodpecker banging away on the tree. Do you know the difference in appearance from the male and female? -Hint -it is easy- big red mustache on the males.

Last time I saw one, all I had to hand was my cell phone and a spare rifle scope

There's a mated pair that hangs around the house, but every time they show up and I think to get a good picture they've always flown off again by the time I get the Pentax from the house.

Flickers (as known in my area) are all fun and games, until one starts pecking on your house! One knocked a bit on my chimney liner once. Quite loud in the house (6 inches of stainless steel liner above the masonry)
I've seen them excavate a pine tree with carpenter ants in it within days. Holes 5 inches deep, 4 across, 10 long...I removed that tree for sure. They are a good indicator of insects in utility poles too.

Not trying to turn a tractor thread into a bird thread, but as you said -"in my area" these are the real Flickers.Photos and Videos for Northern Flicker, All About Birds, Cornell Lab of Ornithology.
Usually a lot of folks call the Pileated a Red-Headed and they are wrong again -Red-headed Woodpecker Overview, All About Birds, Cornell Lab of Ornithology
Finally the real "Pileated" Photos and Videos for Pileated Woodpecker, All About Birds, Cornell Lab of Ornithology
Sorry for the tractor interruption --as you may have perceived - I think know more about birds than tractors. all I know is I need mine to run and cut grass when needed here is a pic of mine Scag Liberty Z Zero-Turn Mower 36" 18 HP Kawasaki (alldadelawnmowers.com)

Check out my response -- the Cornell U website is a great site for Bird ID's

BTW the Pileated are the noisiest of the woodpeckers -- they definitely let u know they are around -- I hear them all the time around here especially out in the woods and around our home. We live in the city but have a wooded area of 25 acres around on 3 sides of our lot.
If you want to check out their call over at the Cornell site -- all you tractor lovers will remember it forever --and hear it when you are under your machines -fixin em!
    Nuff said about birds!

I've been seeing a lot of them down here recently, 2 were hanging around while i was out in the tree Tue.
And my mother has at least 1 that's decided to make its home behind the house, I think its her favorite bird to see.

Hey everyone, just stumbled upon this thread. Im in VA and currently on the lookout for a new tractor. I had a Massey 30B that conveyed with our house, but they failed to mention its just a lawn decoration. All the hoses are dry rotted, hose connectors are rusted together, no fuel tank. But I does have a new front wheel and tire!
Looking for something in the 25-30hprange. 4x4 is a must and after that as many attachments as I can get.
But i also inherited a World Lawn 60" zero turn with the house that only had 180 hrs.

The HP range you mention, just depends on preference these days, they’re all pretty good tractors. What’s the closest dealers to you? That may influence your decision :D

    I know there's a Kubota dealer nearby,
But my dad and uncle have been looking at LS tractors and are trying to see what kind of deal we could get if we buy 3 at the same time.

How large is your property? What jobs will you/would you like to be able to do? The horsepower range you specify puts you at the upper range of subcompact tractors, and solidly in the heart of compact tractors? Do you want, or need mid PTO to run a belly mower, or front sweeper or snowblower? Preference of manual or hydrostatic drive?

Bigger the better but comes with some downfalls... transporting it, the weight of just being a big tractor, maintenance. I like dealing with the local dealership... kubota is a good choice seeing it’s close. I’d keep your options open and see which dealer will give the best deal . Good luck!:thumbsup:

I’ve been eying up a JD 650/750/850 for loader work around my wooded 2 acres. Seems like I can snag one for around $7k and I like that they are Yanmars wearing green paint. I struggle to justify new tractor money for tree and driveway maintenance duty on not a ton of land. Especially when I already have a shop that still needs concrete and finish work.

13 acres, need to dig, pull, plow snow, brush hog. Lots of dirt moving. Maybe plow a small field.
