Would never buy a vehicle with remote start & not just because my truck is garaged. Wouldn't leave a running vehicle unattended in a million years. Over the years I've witnessed a few people standing in an empty parking spot scratching their heads. Love my physical ignition key.

I used to install a battery cut-off in my air-cooled VW's. It was hard to see and I could take the key. I also had a locking shifter that made it impossible to get out of reverse. I still have both for the Thing actually.
Of course none of this defends against a flatbed.
    Those were the days!

Normally I would say I prefer this option, but with the new remote start capability that came with my 2021, I’m really going to like it having it. Remote starting and getting the inside cooled off in Texas extreme heat is very nice.

    I have insurance for theft.

I'm not saying it's impossible, I just doubt the average person stealing cats is going to have those.

This is exactly my point. Since that news article was talking about Canada in 2019, how many total vehicle thefts were there that same year? There were almost 90,000 vehicle thefts in Canada in 2019. I would wager that there are more vehicles stolen by tow trucks.

You can't just drive away a vehicle that was remote started. Either you guys live in shitty areas or are paranoid. For ten years (08-18) I left the keys in the ignition of my explorer almost always and used the keypad to get in and out. Wish my Taco had that keypad.

I'm not sure why Toyota did this, but my 2020 .. It has the lock/unlock FOB and also the key lock on the door .. But only the driver's side. Passenger side, nothing.
It's kinda' a PITA as, say I go get some groceries .. Lock the truck, get my stuff, come back out, hit the FOB to unlock ... But it only unlocks the driver's side.
Normally, I'd come out and (My other rigs) hit the FOB and it unlocks both doors. Fine. Or, because I'm gonna put the groceries on the passenger side, unlock the passenger side with the key, load my stuff and hit the un-lock switch on the passenger door. Again fine.
This whole no-key-lock on the passenger side, and the FOB only unlocking the drivers door is ... Kinda' irritating..

I had the same thing on a 72' hot-rod Plymouth Duster I owned once. I had a big-ol' Hi amp switch that bolted on the pos. battery lug, and the cable bolted onto that. You just turned the switch off and it killed power to everything. Worked like a champ!
Of course that was back in the day when there were no computers that needed a trickle of power constantly, even when everything was shut off. I also had a 69' Roadrunner that I had a toggle switch spliced into the 'IGN' wire coming off the ign switch on the steering column. It was buried way under the dash, where you had to know exactly where it was. So even if you broke/popped the key tumbler and turned the ign with a screwdriver, it would crank all day but never start.
A lot to be said for 'simpler' times..

You can change the FOB settings in the radio options. You can switch it to unlock all doors on 1 button press of the FOB or 2 back-to-back presses of the FOB for all doors.

You just needed to look for one with MT and you would have been GTG.

Press the button on the key 2 times and it will unlock the passenger side too.

Really? Anyone have a nut-shell quick guide to that? I think I've spent a bunch of time trying to figure out everything there was going through countless menu-options but haven't run across that one...
    TIA for any tips..

Good deal, glad to help. Sure makes a big difference in loading shit into the truck being able to trigger the passenger door.

While I agree that those Faraday pouches work well for the PTS fobs, it looks like a PITA to constantly take your keys in and out of them. Aside from full insurance, I think a hidden switch inside the truck on the starter, fuel, or spark circuit would be easier.
FYI- Parking right up against curbs, parking with your steering wheel cranked one way, and always using your parking brake (FWD vehicles) are a few ways to make it more difficult for tow trucks or flatbeds to grab-and-go easily.
