Finally!!!! Apple CARPLAY on my Toyota Tacoma!

Hey fellas I hope everyone is doing well,after doing a lot of research I was able to gather up the correct information and parts (brackets, plug&play harnesses) needed to install a head unit radio that had Apple car play.
This is the Stinger Radio I recently installed!

No questions, normally not a fan of these stick out head units but this one actually looks pretty good on the Taco!

 

Are you able to see the radio information on the dashboard?

 

For ~1200 I'd just get an aftermarket unit.

Right but it's 1200 and doesn't look very fluid. For 2/3 of that I would expect more.

Guess you missed the part of it being an after market unit huh. I’m not familiar with an OEM model that looks like that.

 

I do agree. I’m hoping an update fixes that. Aside from that it’s pretty nice!

 

Never understood the fascination among the OEs or the Aftermarket to have a head unit that looks like someone glued an iPad to the face of the dash.

 

Totally agree with you. But for some reason this particular unit looks like it belongs.

Great work, OP. Thank you for sharing. I was lucky and got the 2020. I didn't think I would like Apple Car Play as much as I actually do. Good solution here for folks who need or want it.

 

i have an aftermarket unit and i prefer these pop out units over the ones that require the brackets since it's smaller than OEM unit

 

No reason it has to be smaller than the OEM unit.

 

i had the basic entune radio so that wouldn't have worked on mine

 

The new tacomas have an awesome updated version too

 

You can swap the bezel easily.

 

Honest question here. What make Apple Carplay or Android Auto worth it?

I've used it a little bit in rental cars (or tried to... short lived trips, don't really get a sense for it) and haven't really had the lightbulb go off as to why it's better. I'm sure I'm just not seeing it yet because everyone loves it. But what are the advantages of it?
