To me sledding is way more fun. I think working at a ski resort for the last 10 years has killed the thrill of snowboarding for me.

i mean, sledding is in some respects as fun as boarding. i wouldnt want to only do one or the other forever.

If working at a resort burnt you out, maybe you just need to ride a new resort or do more skimo or something. They are different for sure. But there is terrain you just cant take a sled in, that requires a different proccess to navigate while skiing down. thats the balance i like. the board is just more....simple. which while riding has its own tranquility

ya. the last storm brought some good snow, at 8000ft and up. it consolidated fairly well, and started filling in terrain. Awesome day, with very knowledgeable riders and skiiers. The kind of crowd i hunger to be around in the back country.

I think thats why i like going out there so much lol. There just arent really any scrubs when you get to that level of back country skiing haha. No shit jerrys on the mountain or clueless first time covid back country travelers. Everyone back there knows their shit and is a great rider. Everyone kind of knows everyone too.

I need to start getting back out into the backcountry. Used to go all the time in the Olympics (and some Cascades)in WA. Then the group got older...kids, moved away, ect. Then main partner I'd go with got hurt pretty bad in a car crash so I ended up going to San Diego for the next three winters and well...life happens lol

I had one seize up shortly after I flooded my truck. Pretty sure I killed all 3 of them and the ac compressor bearing.

Well fun start to the day yesterday morning. Had the front passenger tire decided it had lived a long enough life. Not 100% what caused it but I had driven ~5 miles that morning on it before it blew.

The red square was where it actually failed. Pulled over right away and could stick my finger through the side wall (well approx that area...it was only a finger sized gash at that point and honestly was probably more towards the tire size lettering than where its actually circled). Being as it was ~630 or so in the morning and dark out i decided to limp it back ~1-2 miles to someones driveway instead of working on the side of the hi way which caused the rest of the damage you see (longer dash and tread separation)

And of course I didnt have the spare with me since we had been hauling lumber and doing dump runs. So thankfully the wife grabbed it and the impact and brought them out to me...and she still made it to work in time lol.

The only really crappy part of it all......holy crap a hi-lift that has been out in the cold ~5 degree weather SUCKS to use with no gloves lol.

O well now its time to decided on either just getting a new replacement for a spare or going to different tires or ?? This set still has life left in them...but only another 10k ish

Odd indeed. But who knows what caused it.

Well like anything 10k is just a conservative estimate. The tires themselves only have 35-40k on them. Seems like getting anywhere from 50-60k isn't unheard of. (Copper st maxx btw)

Yeah I recognized the side wall. I have them as well for the moment.

Can't say I've heard of the side walls blowing out like that. Pretty odd.

Mine have a lot of miles on them. But basically dead. Not 100% sure how old they are as I replaced half of them a while ago.

I would bet something happened to the sidewall more than just a blowout. What exactly....no clue.

Now I just have to decide on what to do. Hadn't planned on doing that for another few months. Stick with the 285/55/r16, go to 255/85/r16 or other sizes. Then sticking with the maxx or trying out say the pro. Or go to a different brand in a c range

Wow t have much options in 255/85. Think you'll have two choices and that's in pretty much for a 16" wheel.

    Much more choices in 285s.

I'm going through the same thing but luckily have 17s and have a lot more choices. 16s are dead haha

Luckily the 255/85 options are tires I like so at least there is that. 17s do seem to have more options these day but still depends on the tire...least for e load vs c load.

Still easier than finding tires for stock rim fj40 and my mr2 lol

Yeah I have the 255s and they do good.

There are more and more c load options appearing in 17s which is nice. I found several. But might just go with a D.
