Hate it for the dog when he decides to get up.

 

It is 18° this morning here. The heating unit is having a hard time keeping up. Thermostat is set for 70°, actual house temp is 65°.

 

Damn. Went to the drive thru for breakfast for me and the kids this morning. Truck windows are frozen shut.

 

My youngest is out in it taking orders for chicken biscuits from jacklegs.

 

Sure hope she is bundled up!

Heat pump struggles mightily below freezing

I made my way downstairs at 1:30 and fired up the gas logs

Seems decent enough

 

I want to convert the existing fireplace to gas. The logs are there, just missing the line and service. We burn plenty of wood in the fire pit, but I have no real desire to burn it in the house.

 

not my brand new 16 seer units...but then again I have the heat strips set to turn on when the outdoor temp sensor is below 30F.

I also lockout the heat pumps below 20F as they are completely useless and cannot pull heat at that point.

 

Sounds like I need to educate myself more about this stuff.

 

Picks from that place are the second a vehicle hits the lot. Doesn’t take long before the only thing left is the frame.

 

I’m gonna go look at it tomorrow. I need HVAC control panel and some trim pieces from center console and door trim.

I’m there almost too often when I’m home. There’s always a 3rd gen 4Runner there. I’m just waiting on the holy grail of a 1st gen to be there...

 

My units are 16 and 26 years old. They struggle below about 35. Heat pumps are great until it gets real cold.

 

34 year old gas furnace did good last night. Temperature in the house never dropped below 72. I was expecting it to crap out last night. I guess there will be colder weather ahead for it to crap out on us.

 

I'm not sure how old our one unit is, but going by looks alone it has seen some years.

 

Never can tell. My old one is for upstairs. It hardly runs in winter but runs constantly in the summer.
