Throttle Body?

I have a 2004 Tacoma 3.4L. I can press my gas pedal 1/3 of the way down and do not get any response from the engine. After I pass 1/3 of the pedal I then get an engine response. I replaced the TPS and this did not fix my problem. I have attached a pic of the throttle actuator whatever it is ( not sure what it’s called). It has a four pin connector. One pin i am showing is ground with a meter. Another pin I am getting 5 volts with the ignition in the on position. The other two pins I don’t have a clue. I just hate to buy another throttle body if it could possibly be something different. I really need my truck back on the road. Any help would be appreciated.

have you taken the intake off and see what the throttle body does when the accelerator is pushed? Could almost be a fuel delivery problem as well. Sometimes the plate gets deformed from use and doesn't seal properly allowing air to pass and giving similar issues.

 

Do you get the same response when you twist the black thing where the cable sits, rather than the pedal?

 

Yes, when I twist the black thing by hand where the throttle cable ties in it does the same thing. I do have a guy looking at it for me now.

 

It just feels like nothing inside the throttle body moves for the first 1/3 of travel.

Mechanically nothing moves until 2/3rds pedal by design. The throttle plate is controlled by an electric motor in the throttle body. The black sensor next to the throttle cable is bad. None serviceable item. You need a used throttle body and hope its good on that one. Or buy a new throttle body.

The service engine light is on and code keeps saying TPS and pedal position sensor. I have changed TPS so it sounds like you are right. Looks like I am fixing to get a new throttle body. I really appreciate the information. I will update as soon as I get one and change it out.

 

Damn, that sounds expensive

 

I found a new one for around $450. Just hate you can’t get just the sensor.

Where did you get the TPS you installed?

 

that was an ordeal. I finally got one from partsgeek.com. I tried all the parts stores in my area and when the part would come in it would always be wrong. Partsgeek had it for forty something dollars.

 

do you know what this part is called, is it the TPS or or something else.

 

That is why I ask,
I ordered several that were wrong too, was wondering if you may have been using the wrong one. I finally got one from Parksgeek and it fixed my problem

 

when I replaced the one from parts geek then the TPS code went away and the throttle position code stayed.
