QDR is an important factor when deciding to buy a Tacoma, or any Toyota. Too bad Toyota has that fuel pump recall going on.

Pretty much sums up my feelings. Toyota won't do anything different until people stop buying their vehicles in their current form...

I just bought a '21 Tundra knowing damn well it'll get shit mileage. And I'm not even mad. Could I have purchased the F-150 I was shopping and get another 5 mpg? Sure, but I would have been buying a truck that cost approx $10k more. I can buy a hell of a lot of fuel for $10k.

    So. Many. Stickers.
The one that stopped like, 12 vehicles after 13 years of sales of millions of vehicles that are just fine? Pretty typical of Toyota recalls, overdo it and recall everything to make sure the tiniest group that might be affected gets covered.

News likes to blow these up, but when you run numbers, other manufacturers take forever to get recalls going, and after far more carnage and destruction.

I went to Toyota because of the nightmare of repairs with my Ford and Chevy trucks. I went to Toyota and won't ever go back to domestic. The only cool looking truck is the new Bronco but since it's a Ford I just keep waiting for the recall bulletins.

And that's the thing... We all have our stories, right? Also take into account that just the F-150 alone sells at a rate of approximately 3x of Tundra and Tacoma sales COMBINED. My old man has had nothing but Ford, and has experienced almost no issues (aside from a failed turbo in his 2011 diesel... WHOOPS). At that volume though they are exposing themselves to a much higher number of failures, but not necessarily a higher failure rate.

Truth be told I think they all make good trucks anymore... And yes, I can be honest... The allure of "Toyota reliability" absolutely played a factor in my latest purchase. Can I tell you with any confidence that my Tundra will be any more reliable than my neighbor's new Ram? Well... No. :notsure:

Toyota has fallen short in many areas, mostly their once rock solid reliability.

But there still better than any other brand, so I'll stick with them.

Look up truck reliability and Toyota still tops the charts.

I think another trim package would be awesome. 35’s stock with an HC rear bumper and hidden front winch

Well Toyota doesn't have to worry about that....their trucks are like gold right now. Perhaps if the big 3 built better quality products they would actually feel the need to update. They could probably do no changes for another 10 years and still make a ton of $$$.

Kind of, Ford releases sales figures for the entire F Series line up combined so it’s also including their entire super duty lineup F-250 through 550

I was agreeing with you  and yeh, it may be. I blew the head gasket 3k miles ago. Just annoying problems after that. But it was 100% built in Japan.

His 96 has about a third of the parts used on a typical 3rd gen.
Toyota or GM or Ford could build you a vehicle that 100% reliable and will last you a lifetime. However very few could afford it and truthfully, would you want something to last forever.
It's always going to be a balancing act with manufacturers to
    Add new features
Provide "good enough" reliability and durability
Still be able to make a profit.

And, people who buy Jeeps have different expectations than those who buy Toyotas.

Any massed produced product can have issues but chances are after those pumps are replaced the trucks will be GTG for many years of dependable service.

My impression has always been Toyota's reliability was built on the back of the 22r(e)… 3rz... their 4 cylinder iron block engines. The JZ were fun, bullet proof that added to it. It's easy to say my Toyota doesn't have that problem when my Toyota never came with the option.

If enough people wanted that then Toyota would offer it. They are in the business to make money, not steer society towards a certain type of vehicle.
Think about it... every vehicle and every trim level from every manufacturer is driven by customer focus groups. If they didn't, their vehicles would never sell.

Toyota advertising for trucks is abysmal. If they would have advertised the FJ, Land Cruiser more they would have been better sellers. People can't buy a vehicle they don't know is out there. I never ever saw an FJ or Land Cruiser commercial. Tacoma, 4Runner, Tundra commercials are anemic. Magazines and social media aren't enough. Maybe there has been a Land Cruiser commercial, has anyone ever seen one? Or when they were sold, and FJ commercial?

Manufacturers have to change things for emissions and mileage regulations too.
