A buddy of mine from college did something similar when he graduated. He and his girlfriend rented a tandem bike w/ saddle bags. They flew to oregon and rode it across the country all the way to VA camping along the way. Then shipped the bike back to OR.

thanx man. drag about yer bike! i sat on the idea for many years till i found this group of baggers who did ragbrai every year. i bought the bob and i was hooked. the only downside to bike campin is ya either drag around massive weight or spend a fortune on mega lite stuff like the tent. its a Eureka Zeus 1 EXO Ultralite tent (3.82lbs) btw. the goal is to be under 40 lbs total for a week long trip. that can be a challenge with 13.5 lbs of trailer and dry sack. much easier with my new bags. wanna buy a bob trailer?

ps: in the tent pic you can see a suburban/trailer in the background with a tree on it. the town got slammed that night and we lost a guy in a tent not far from us. rough night, sad day. i think we rode 100 miles in his memory that day.

I sleep in my shell, but I'd love to find a vestibule that extends from the back of the shell out and down, and covers 10-15 sq feet of ground. That way there's some privacy for a portable john, plus a dry space to kick boots off without tracking mud into the shell.

And PS ... great thread :)

PPS ... anybody use these? http://www.adventuretrailers.com.

I have gone on treks with some people who own these. They are great but do make some trails more challenging.

I'd just like to say that this thread is awesome. I am loving my first truck and never realized how many more places to go and things to do there were when you don't have to have sportscar-quality roads to get there.

Thanks to everyone for the great pics!

^ this is a great idea, I wouldn't mind having a vestibule off my shell! I'll keep my eye out.
