You're leaving a lot out for the context of your argument.

My entertainment angle is a little different. I understand those that have skin in the game. It is an opportunity to vent. But, what I find strange is those who stomp all over a thread white knighting for a side with no skin whatsoever. Happens on the interwebs a lot. Very strange. There has to be a pysch term for it. Maybe have the pysch engineers chime in.

The OP's issue was resolved and rather quickly, everything after was just hilarious.

What made it so hilarious? Calling out a manufacturer who sends out a product with a known issue? Or fan boys claiming they can do no wrong?

I had a hidden front hitch on my second gen. I considered one on my third gen. I would not want to buy one and install it, knowing "if it bends or breaks, we'll warranty it and replace it" when they know there may be an issue with it. The warranty isnt the issue to me, who wants to install a part twice if they know they should get the right one in the first place?

I thought that I would jump on here and ask a question. Has anyone thought about building your own front hitch and welding it on?

Excellent and highly informative post. I gained some additional perspective I did not have previously. Thank you.

I would love to subscribe to a custom front hitch thread if/when you get off the ground, especially if you were willing to share specs for others to reproduce once you figure out something you're comfortable with.

Sure. I have 1,000 different project threads going (probably a dozen with the new truck build), and most are in the planning phase right now. I am getting pretty impatient with myself to start moving some of these things off paper, and am eager to post projects here as they take shape.

Not sure exactly how TW works to this end, but I think you can "follow" me on here.

*I want to make it very clear that I would absolutely never claim to have made a receiver that aims to preserve our trucks' crash dynamics, if that's what you are looking for. I am not a professional engineer and I have no plans to wreck some trucks to see what happens. I think the prudent assumption is that a front hitch or metal bumper positioned high for ground clearance might always be a compromise to crash safety, and that's a compromise we choose to make for the other utilities it provides. Finally, I often try to reinvent the work that others have done for my own pleasure; sometimes I arrive at something I think is better, and just as often I arrive at a new appreciation for the hard work that has gone into products already on the market. Assuming I don't get halfway into building this and realize I should just buy a Mobtown receiver and be done with it (very possible), I do plan to stress test the design to see what fails first, by suspending the full weight of the truck by the receiver. That should make for an entertaining post regardless of the outcome.
