Thanks for the great pics Girls! But as I look at the pics you posted most of you have Taco's with extra cabs---Why? Just curious! I saw a couple of you with DC taco's and would think it would be the best choice as it seems a little more versatile. (You girls got it over us a guys when it comes to using common sense--that's why I ask) By the way what would you say is/are/were your first mods you made to your trucks if any? I can understand the Northern girls buying 4x4 because of the weather in your areas...but after that what was your first mods?

I got double cab because it serves as my "trunk" so to speak. Don't have a tonneau cover or a cap and don't want my luggage to get soaked when driving in bad weather (or stolen when staying overnight in a big city). Also, it allows you to have more than one passenger. I like the esthetics of a DC better too. Weather is the more obvious reason from the list of reasons why I chose 4x4.

    First mod, got windows tinted.

xtra cab vs double is the same as small purse vs large purse...if the space is available i will fill it with senseless crap. xtra cab just limits what i can stuff back there...and that's a good thing  That and the fact that I found my truck at the dealer with only 27k on it, I wasn't leaving without it!

Bought my truck November 2007 my Christmas haul that year was a bug deflector, seat covers and floor mats.

This year Toy was treated to a new suspension and new tires. Hopefully soon I'll be getting some fender flares and in the spring a spray in bed liner. And maybe some lights if I can ever make up my mind. Then I'm done. Maybe.

Thanks for the comments so far...and the mods you have taken as well as your reason for getting the taco you did make total sense. I didn't even think of the seat covers to protect the inside and the floor mats made sense as that is what I do....I have now taken my head out of the dark place it was to look at the preservation of the inside and keep the truck in a decent condition.

The lights I see as a safety function Mt. do you see it in another way like it's pretty (remember I am an old guy so I may be alittle old fashioned) more than its functional? If you get to peruse the net you will see the british taco with a tail-light mounted in the truck tail gate which I thought was a darn good idea and I've seen others with blinking tailights located in the third tail light...another good "safety idea!"

I understand the DC comment about locking your personal gear in the truck but I wonder if you wouldn't be better off putting some kind of tonneau cover over the bed just to keep the snow and ice out? By the way I love my bed since I've had it Line-X a few years ago....Oh yes forgot to mention the window tint....you can see I'm in the south and that's kind of a first thing to do. I got the window tint with metal in it to reflect 80% of the heat....

I've been going back and forth on the cover but I haul my ATV in the bed so unless I get a soft top I can roll up and throw in the back seat, removing it a couple times a week would be an issue. The snow and ice help with weight during winter months:eek: hehe Only bad thing is I have to shovel it out when I want to load the ATV in it.
I know there are other options for weight but I never know when I'm gonna need the bed for something so it doesn't seem practical to me.

Lights = safety. I'm in the hills alot, sometimes after dark. There are lots of animals roaming around too so I figure more lights means better visibility and less chance of me clobbering a deer that was hiding in the shadows.

And this comment may get me banned but what the hell! :D I actually like the looks of stock trucks...all of the aftermarket bumpers and stuff just don't do anything for me. There I said it! Ha! I would never do anything to my truck just for looks, anything I do will be for function or performance.

I didn't even think any "Sane" person would ride an ATV in bad weather. I guess now you know I'm a sissy....LMAO. Good for you being active. I bet it's alot of fun where your at...than again maybe you need your atv to do some of the chores you might have....but all in all I am learning how people utilize there TACO's. Yout got a short bed or long bed? I couldn't really tell from the pic!

Short bed. Riding the quad in the winter is all for pleasure! It's so much fun!!:D Put some snow tires on the back and you can go just about anywhere, drift corners and not worry about eating rocks from the person in front of you hehe

I bought the Access cab simply because I don't need the extra seats. I don't have any children, and my husband has an Acura MDX for hauling people in. So, it's like having a reg cab with extra lockable storage space. I would love to have the Double Cab but hate that shorty bed. The double cab long bed is too big of a truck for me. If I wanted a truck that big, I would've went with a fullsize. That's me....

Gotta have 4WD. I've owned trucks for years. My first mods are floor mats & seat covers because I get really dirty at work. Tonneau cover....and other little things.

I've 'been there done that' with lift kits & big tires & offroadworthyness..... Now I'm older and like to keep this tacoma prestine & clean and close to stock.

I got an extra cab because there isn't enough room in a single cab. In Hawaii you can have friends sit in the bed of the truck, but it's nice to be able to have more then one person in the cab with you. That, and it's a good place to keep all my random sh*t. lol

First mod I got was a Rev Tek 3" suspension lift. My tires are 32x11.5, and I have an after market ipod / c.d / dvd player, cause you know, just in case I want to watch a movie when I'm camping ;)

Thanks Hawaii girl but I take it since your an island girl you probably utilize your taco more for camping therefore you aim your mods in that endeavor. Do you tint your windows? Do you have a particular tint you prefer? If you read my post you can see I like the mettalic tint to reflect heat. Of course here on the mainland we are limited by law on what we can use. When camping do you really sit in your truck with someone else and watch a DVD? Or do you remote a tv off an external outlet? Just curious....I am learning how different parts of the country (world) utilize their trucks. Ways and reasons for what I never thought of and kind of makes sense now why and how Toyota markets and mfg's their trucks....
