I have a hitch mounted winch. I have attached it several times and done some winching. This mount has convinced me it is better to have it permanently mounted. It is heavy, rattles on rough roads, cannot be used at large angles, etc. After researching the pros and cons of hidden winches, I am planning on using a bumper with an open mounted winch. I can only find two bumpers that satisfy that mounting system, the ARB and the Warn Ascent. Does anyone know of any others?

What's the reasoning you found in your research? I loved having a hidden winch. Our trucks allow pretty great access to it regardless

Nope, just extending the conversation. I gotta get a bumper first. Preferably Hybrid. I like slimline types but want a full hoop for limb risers. I think that might look counterintuitive, so I'll go hybrid.

Info comes from reading articles and discussions with trainers at Overland Experts. Foremost reason is to be able to easily see cable winding on drum and also ease of operating lever. I hate practicing recovery techniques but it is nice to have done them in case you are in that situation. I hope to use knowledge to avoid any winching situation.

Cruising the front bumper thread I think those might be the only two and I know both are super heavy. Never really thought about it until now but looking at a lot of those, they all assume a small access hole isn't going to be completely fucked for you to access the lever so I can see how that might be an issue in a non-ideal scenario. Still, nice to keep the line out of the sun and something to keep peoples' dick beaters off you gear when it's sitting in the parking lot.

Just saying, I used my winch today and both of those were easy with mine. My lever is right inside a hole in my bumper and I can see the entire drum for winding. Not arguing, just providing input and more options

Went out to my buddies place at Dolly Sods. Had to get his trailer out there through the snow. Then drove around just for the hell of it.

Must've missed that fire/smoke cloud. We did a lot of running around Saturday in Culpeper so we weren't home......

Man, I wish I had the garage space, I'd snag one of those lifts in a heart beat.

    Rollin' hydrocarbons!
I was ready to run up there, but they need at least 12 foot ceilings. So it wouldn't work in my garage. Foot shy.
