I drained fluid out of the rad with the petcock, when I undid that coolant hose for the oil cooler a good amount came out of there as well. I want to say I ended up draining a little under .75 gal. I spoke with the man who made the arms and he said those tripod things are reinforced on the inside and that they shouldn't be a problem. Time will tell but he did say when the fan is on it's going to be pulling itself away from those arms which makes sense. I think this fan will definitely have no problem keeping the truck cool with the stock tstat. I hooked up the override and it was damn near like a jet engine trying to take off it was mad.

haha on the video I saw that was how I described it like a damn jet engine. I have been debating keeping the stock t-stat or tossing the 160 in. figured since I am in there double up but makes a good point with how powerful it is.

My only worry would be it overcooling the engine. But I mean the fan doesn't come on until the tstat opens up pretty much so you may be fine. You could always tune the controller so it doesn't start ramping too hard until it gets above like 170.

Good point it is tuned for a stock setup now. I need to up Ill and reseal the shroud anyway so likely adding the fan and getting a bigger trans cooler likely should do the trick. I def want to add the override. need to see where I am going to add it. Thought wiring it into my switch pro would be an easy setup.

Yeah my old shroud seals fell off and I didn't bother putting new ones on. I had enough trouble getting that gosh darn shroud in as it was. I don't think I am going to add the over ride. I don't think it is good for the fan to be running at that speed for any extended period of time.
I really want one of those fancy switch pros and the external fuse panels.

Grab a Painless Wiring aux fuse box. I did their 7 circuit box which has 3 always hot and 4 ign hot or vice versa circuits to power all of my accessories. Cleaned up a lot of my wiring.

I have been meaning to buy something like this. Did you use the ign on fuse in the engine bay or did you snag one from the interior for that box? I think the washer fluid fuse in the cabin is on w/ ignition only. I know the only issue with the one in the engine bay is when the truck is doing that pesky evap test it comes on.

That really puts a damper on things, our stock shroud is quite flimsy. Maybe if somehow you can use the new shroud and fit it to the stock one. Haven't received mine yet, but was told when ready I'll need to pay extra for shipping to Hawaii. I can see me putting this mod way back on the back burner. So who's going to do the washboard road test for us?

Hmm. I wonder if I can mount a gopro in there to watch the fan and see. I talked with John and he said not to worry about strength of the arms as they are internally reinforced, and he did bring up a point that when the fan is on it is going to be pulling itself away from the arms.

That said just for extra room in the engine bay I may try and fab something up for a shroud that is lower profile than the fj shroud.

Yes we need some aluminum shrouds for room and rigidity.

Some wiring inspiration. Took me a while to figure out how I wanted it . I heatshrank the insulated wiring and doubled up on the ends. Also crimped and soldered the terminal ends. I have a not so fancy flex a lite and derale pwm fan controller. It barely turned on with the 170 degree thermo so I'll have to spend time adjusting it.

Yeah. I had bought the FAL fan awhile ago before researching much crazier options. The Flex-a-lite comes with a fin insert thermo sensor but Derale has a "better" stick on aluminum sensor that attaches to the radiator closest to the lower hose. Fan + temp sensor run into the fan controller on one side, while 12v and ground run opposite along with the stock harness. I omitted the alternate switch but it has a hookup for such.

    You can see it here

Does anyone know if the milwaukee high torque has enough jam to take off the crank bolt and buzz it back on with out having to hold the fly wheel?(auto trans)
