What Chainsaw do you run?

Cut and hauled wood with brother joe this morning.... back says “no more wood”! :-/

 

for anyone who sharpens their blades , this is the best tool ever ...

 

I got one of those a couple of months ago - I agree, they are great!

 

RIP 18” bar...27 years old, it owed me nothing.

 

Used the saw after sharpening the chain with the stihl .325 tool.... WOW!! Great tool... chain seemed as if it were new!!

It was a spectacular weekend here to spend at the Shack ,burning last years firewood. It's always nice drinking the morning coffee by the wood stove or outdoor fire.

 

Heck yea!! Enjoy it brother!! Sheesh! Looks like a one man shack for sure!! Nothing better than that... love the outdoors warming area ;-)

 

I would love to have that experience, it reminded me of staying in a cabin in maine in the winter.

 

I spent time there most weekends in the fall and winter,,,,,cutting firewood , most of which I give to my sister as she only burns wood. Also have been playing with chainsaw carving,,,one can never have to many hobbies
It’s also a good spot to train the pup and let him run

 

What hit that bar -- a tree? -- or maybe? a vehicle?

 

I had a 100’ Poplar crack and was leaning on another. As I was cutting the support tree, the saw got pinched in the wedge. I broke out my 2nd saw, finished the cut, both trees fell simultaneously and the bar was bent.

 

That was really close to the house !!

 

Late to the party here...have only used three saws in a lifetime, bespeaking the quality of the last two: My father's Poulan that I wore out for him, then his replacement Stihl 028WB Wood Boss from back in the mid-70's and finally a MS460. I and my buddies "requisitioned" our dads' chainsaws (the Poulan) while they were at work back in the mid to late 60's and took them deep into the woods to build small log cabins for us to hang out in, basically little hunting camps. 6th, 7th and 8th graders, with chainsaws, double-bladed axes, hatchets, splitting wedges and mauls. (Don't fret: We were experienced woodsmen, with extensive prior experience with the double-bladed axes going all the way back into the third grade, when several of us would climb a tree then one of us would chop it down and the rest of us would ride it down. Great fun...) We were careful, never had a kickback, nobody got their eye put out, or even got cut. Then we discovered girls and cars, and that ended that. The 028WB is one of the original, legendary Stihls that contributed to building their vaunted reputation. The guy that owns the saw shop here took the time to walk me through it and explained its superior "they don't make'em like this anymore" construction to me, has obvious reverence and admiration for it. He made me a standing offer if I ever want to sell it, but also told me to never sell it. Still runs and cuts like a champ. The MS460 scares my hunting buddies. They'll roll, load, split and stack sawed tree trunks exhaustively all day, just as long as I cut them and they don't have to, but they absolutely want no part of operating that saw. That's one bad saw. So much so that Stihl requires that you wear cutting chaps just to look at it in the Stihl catalog...

 

That’s a shed, it missed by 2-3’.
The forecast was calling for 50-60 mph gusts Christmas Eve night, I had to take action to prevent shed destruction.

 

Exactly my thought -- well better to wreck a chainsaw bar , than the corner of that building.

 

Wow what a story -- " rest of us would ride it down. Great fun.." c'mon now? --really? Makes our b-b gun fights in the woods sort of tame by comparison! I still have my busted off (capped) front tooth as a result of one of these shenanigans.
The 028 -- my deceased FIL had one of these -- My son has it --as his big saw- I would have it except it leaks oil all over the place. Once I asked my dealer to fix it --that has been the only thing they "fixed" that did not stay "fixed". The good thing is it is stored in its original case -which contains the drippings. Good thing -still runs great , just a little slippery! Does yours drip oil?

 

That tree to your left looks almost as bad as the one you cut down from looking at the decay in the trunk!

Yep, we rode them down. We didn't climb 80 feet up in to them or nuthin', but 4-5 of us would climb up and get on what would end up being the high side of the tree when it was finally on the ground and we'd ride them down. And we already knew which direction it was going to fall and knew just how to notch it to get it to fall exactly where we wanted it: The directions were in the Boy Scout Handbook, with illustrations! Last one we did took two afternoons to chop down, was about a 14-16" red oak. Even for third graders that was just too much of an investment of valuable time to be sitting up in a tree, waiting for a short ride! Can you imagine looking out your window and seeing a gang of 3rd-4th graders today walking down the street carrying a double-bladed axe? What we did would get your kids taken away these days. We went everywhere with our BB and pellet guns draped across the handlebars of our bicycles, and nobody batted an eye.

BB gun wars here too.

My 028 leaks oil too, right into its orange saw case. I've resorted to draining the bar oil tank as much as possible, then putting a few news papers under it in the case.
