About a Brazillion dollars less than the S&P return given the same amount of money and time.

Sporty car with a manual sure

Truck with a manual the broader market doesn't want nearly as much, even on the used market. A truck for the most part is a lifestyle accessory. It needs to haul boats, dirt bikes, mountain bikes, ATVs, campers, a random deer carcass in the fall and the wife Bonnie's bare root roses home.

Sure one could try and market in certain circles when it's used, but then you're dealing with broke dicks. I realize that's an unpopular opinion, but trying to sell a vehicle on a car forum is a PITA.

Buy a manual because you WANT one, not because you think the resale is going to be better six years from now.

Yea good luck with that where I live more people would be cutting in front of you because you didn’t move fast enough and left just enough room in front of you for their car to squeeze in.

The problem is the numbers. Even though the take rate on a manual is low, I have heard it is 5% of sales. Since 2016-2020, Toyota sold 1,094,063 3G Tacos, at 5% it's 54,703 MT trucks sold. It's never going to be hard to find a MT equipped Taco.

Well, go look for a good quality 1st or 2nd gen and see what's more available, manuals or autos. Pretty easy to find what you are looking for in an auto, not so much in a manual. Part of that I think is manual owners are less likely to give up their vehicle. Regardless, if you want an older manual in a specific configuration, you're going to look harder than you would for the auto.

I'm not saying resale is a reason to get a MT. Buying anything for resale is stupid in my opinion. If I buy a truck, I'm planning to use up every last bit of it and sell it for scrap once I'm done.

Im definetily in the "psycho rower" category, but i still think there is nothing wrong with this AT. I had to get MT, period.

    Get what makes you happy.

Man, I live in the rust belt lol. 1st gens are all but gone, and 2nd gens are still thick, but it seems most of them are towards the middle of the run on.

My whole point was the MT isn't quite as rare as people make it out to be. It is far rarer than the AT yes, but in the grand scheme of things, there are over 50k of them out there. When shopping for a used vehicle, if you have any specific requests it takes time. Be it color, year, or tranny.

Happens here too but what does it matter? If the traffic is bad, even they'll give up after a few changes.

If I had the means and the funds to do it, I would most certainly also be into car collecting. I am just pointing out it is a protfitable hobby, with the benefit of also being a car guy and getting some enjoyment out of it. Some of those guys buying limited edition of hypercars and super cars make alot of money doing it. I believe the Porsche 911R was one of Porsches last TRUE 6 SPEED manuals(not the paddle shift BS they have nowadays). They retailed MSRP for around $185,000. Now, only 4 years later mint examples with a couple hundred miles are worth almost double that at $330,000. Although they only made 991 worldwide, so they might be rarer than a MT tacoma.

The same thing is true for those rare hyper cars, like the Mclaren P1, LaFerrari, and the Venmo.

I believe this type of return(100%+) could be possible aswell with a rare MT optioned Tacoma in a rarer color, but you might have to wait a little longer than 4 years.

Agreed on the fact that these cars were made to be driven, not to be showcased in a garage. What's the point of a car if you can't drive it and enjoy it? I will most definitely use my MT AC as it will be my daily driver when it arrives, and not count the miles, but the SMILES I get per gallon. :D

It matters because I’m trying to move forward and get stuff done. Not dilly dallying along and letting every Tom dick and Harry squeeze in front of me. If I had your attitude I’d sell my truck and ride the bus.

The only reason the car hobby has gone nuts is cheap money. Most people here are forgetting that the 3rd gen engine is forgettable no matter what is behind it for a transmission.

I agree with the right vehicle you can make good money on hoarding cars. I just don't think an MT Taco fits the bill given the production numbers and how they are made. If you could truly "factory order" one, then it would be different, but realistically the different configurations are very limited on Toyotas.

Agreed, buying a car for resale purely is stupid. Buy what you want and enjoy it! It's a truck and meant to be driven hard!
