To those who have aftermarket flat tailgate panels:

I’m debating between brands and wondering if I should go aluminum or plastic. Those who have the aluminum brands that already come powder coated, have you experienced any gouges in the coating while sliding objects in or out of the bed? I don’t care about scratches in a plastic panel but would hate to have a ton of gouges in a coated panel showing the aluminum underneath. Maybe I’m overthinking this

Do yourself a favor and file everything with the police and your insurance just for the record of it. Just to cover your butt, make another copy of the video from the dash cam. Especially with the green light for you and her jumping the no crossing sign.

You may want to try a hose clamp.

I have this one from State 48 Overland. It's aluminum powder coated. I went for metal compared to cutting board material because I use my tailgate for almost everything including working on small engines/chainsaws. Oil and gas easily wipe up, compared to plastic whereas it will soak in. There are quite a few scratches from sliding oak rounds on it, but nothing noticeable. No big gouges or dents after one year of use. The powder coating is pretty tough. Otherwise, I can always coat it with $5 BBQ spray paint to give it a fresh coat. Heck, come to thonk of it, I may even be able to flip the panel for a new look... :notsure::thumbsup:

thanks for the info that’s one I was considering. Does yours fit flush? heard some have issues with the hump on the tailgate structure making the panel stick up

Attached is a picture after a year of use. I'd say yes, it fits flush. I haven't noticed it stick up. Seems like a "buy it for life" product if you ask me. Price is right too.

Fired mine off today for the first time and was at 60psi in a NY minute. I added a tank and some airline and I'm stoked.

We have three that fish in the house which is why six rods. Our 18' pontoon boat lives in a slip with a lift in a marina on Lake Livingston in beautiful East Texas, right at 49 miles away from the house. We only got it in Sept and have been unsuccessful at fishing so far in the hot spots on the lake.

I have this one from Mobtown Off-road https://mobtownoffroad.com/product/2005-2015-toyota-tacoma-tailgate-reinforcement-plate/

I’ve been very happy with it. Haven’t seen any dents in it and it’s taken a beating so far. I was thinking about the plastic ones but couldn’t see myself spending greater than $200 for a big cutting board. I got the smooth one. Makes it so much easier on my knees to climb into the bed. I will get a pic tomorrow for you and post it for you.

Installed the @SpikerEng hood struts. Happy with how they came out. FYI, make sure your rivet gun can do 3/16 steel rivets, the ones on the shelf at home depot cannot (check fine print on back of packaging).

That's a horrible idea. What time?
Noticed the gear shift knob glowing in the parking lot lights at work tonight. No flash on the pic.
