These Rxt shocks sound great until I see them mounted. They lower leg actually manages to hang below the shock mount on the truck. It appears to have no protection and becomes the lowest point on the truck. So much money gets spent improving ground clearance it seems odd to spend $1k for shocks that do the opposite?

I finally got a pic on level ground today with the new added weight of the rtt and bed bars. I guesstimate the total weight in the bed is right at 300 lbs and this is with option 1. Still rides great and I’m sitting at 1.75” of lift, measured from the top of the axle tube to the bottom of the frame rail. (Stock is 8.25”)

I believe that design is how they extended its travel. And ground clearance doesn’t change when lifting a truck if you’re looking at the axle. Larger tires are what increases ground clearance overall

I fully understand both of your points but still think it’s asinine. Other top brands offer extended versions without making part of their shock the lowest and most vulnerable piece.
And yes larger tires gets you more ground clearance but that doesn’t change the fact icon rxt shocks will reduce whatever clearance you have or create. Ever look under a ZR2 and see the low hanging shock mounts? If that doesn’t make an ‘off-roader’ cringe consider the rxt for the Tacoma is worse by extending past any steel mounting/bash plate.
Or 90% of this forum where discussion is had about spending thousands to create a little extra clearance or a little extra protection. I know this thread is tied to the leafs but I was responding specifically to a question about their shocks.
Just an observation: most companies like to showcase the highlights and avoid their drawbacks, I was able to find very few images of the rxt shock as mounted from under the truck which would make it clear to the eye your fancy new and fragile from the stand point of a large rock lower mounting point is. It’s your $ perunner23 but maybe consider extended fox/king/ads instead.

Just shooting from the hip here but since Icon’s are digressive, I assume they’re focused mainly on higher speed off-roading versus rock crawling. They may not be as concerned of that type of clearance.

    Ok.
I didn’t say I couldn’t find any and I definitely didn’t say I wanted to see more; I know how poor it looks. I said there are few, and that was especially tied to manufacturer images, not a handful of images posted by die hard icon fans trying hard to defend a poorly engineered product who bought into the marketing of extra travel but neglected to comprehend reduced ground clearance and exposed fragile parts.

“They may not be as concerned with that type of clearance” Lol What type of clearance is that? Ground clearance? What off road truck isn’t concerned about ground clearance? Ever buy a part for your truck that has a bullet point in the description “reduces ground clearance 2inches Yay!” ? *Mobtowns new and improved Low Clearance Bumper!* Nope, because nobody would buy it.
And yet again you’re making points that are irrelevant to my original comment. I don’t care the type of valving used by Icon. Buying a premium off road part that in fact reduces clearance and creates a vulnerability that didn’t previously exist, especially when options can be had that do neither of the above engineering fumbles seems like a poor choice. I can assure you if the OEM Toyota shock hung down below the mount as far as the rxt in your images, every fab shop would be selling bash plates to protect them and every ‘off-roader’ on this forum would have it on their short list of things to replace/improve.
If you bought them and you like them great, I don’t care. But let’s not pretend it’s a good design. Better exists for the same price. If digressive valving is a must for your driving style, well hot dog icon makes the VS and it doesn’t hang down unprotected like the rxt. If you go back to the original comment that’s what it was about, someone comparing the two looking for some input.

Whatever you do, don't tell him about SUA conversions. :gossip:What kind of moon would purposefully reduce ground clearance?!

Coffee won’t help reading skills or comprehension since you kept missing the point. Comparing a SUA setups to RXT is as dumb as hanging your shocks below the mounts.

It’s “cool your jets” bud. Perfect example. Read something, then comprehend it. Context. You’ve missed it each time.

How about this, if the guy asking about rxt or vs is interested in SUA, I’ll apologize for being so unhelpful. Otherwise mentioning a statistical outlier of all the Tacoma’s in the US as support for reducing ground clearance is simply a fool’s technique for not feeling dumb.

Seriously man, chillax. For all practical purposes losing an inch of ground clearance that close to the wheel really isnt going to matter. Worst case you scrape up the bottom of the eye of your shinny new shocks.

But hey, if you dont like their design, feel free to buy something else
