ECU TSB Update

That's what I'm trying to do now. Another string of excuses, "the computers don't print". I asked to go back and see the result on the computer and was told I can't go back in shop...we'll see, trying to talk directly to tech now.

 

I would be satisfied with a picture on a smartphone of the CUW results showing it was completed. It shows before-after and your VIN. If they already closed the screen, they can try to run it again and it will check (and show) the current revision of your ECM along with your VIN as well.

Or a picture of the health check results screen.

 

I've been taken back into the dealership's shop a few times. I'm always skeptical when they claim I need this or that. Most recent time is when the girl brought her Camry in. Said her tires were feathered and needed an alignment for $180. I asked to see, was brought in. Tires looked just fine, no feathering.

 

I can count on one hand the number of times someone said that their TSB was done via the Health Check function.

 

I don't know how else the dealer would do it. I don't imagine they just keep a stash of TSBs hanging around. The fastest way for them to confirm anything is available is to just plug it in and run the health check. That being said I've never worked in a dealership so I really have no clue.

 

A Health Check would come from an informed Tech, more than likely a Master Tech. Most times, this work is initiated by the SA who would look up the TSB or symptom but not its application. From there, it is just the links in the TSB to the CUWs in TIS. As we know about peeps using the search function around here, or just reading, an SA would be no different. Only so many got the search-fu or care.

Even from the Corp side, we hear a few different stories that folks post about.

It was @Ruggybuggy 's first bit of advice to just ask for a Health Check. Folks earlier in this thread got laughed out the shop asking for that.

Same! That was why I did the 04B13 flash at home. Didn't want to get frustrated. BTDT with previous vehicles for similarly simple requests.

With the automatics , I am thinking all the dealer did was clear short term memory for you .
Your truck would shift better because the adapts needed a re-learn .

If the dealer didnt place a fresh sticker under your hood , you never got the ECU upgrade .

Just a bit of info here. A lot of folks did get the update, but very few got the sticker. It is very random.

You are correct . I remember reading about that a couple years ago
I suppose Toyota engineers thought Toyota technicians would be the only people going into the ECM to verify the latest upgrades .

This is true.

The shitty tune on the 3rd Gen has made Techs and tuners out of many who would never have attempted such work. I cannot say how thankful I am to have hacked versions of TS.

Credit goes back to @lapoltba, who said it best. It is one of the most evident cases of Right to Repair.

Yeah that's what I thought seeing the name of the seller. They even put the Tactrix name on the module. I messaged Tactrix and they said they know about it but it's hard to get Amazon to remove listings. That's crazy. even Ebay will remove counterfeit stuff pretty quick. Amazon needs to be brought back down to earth.

Just bought the genuine thing. I hope it fixes the odd acceleration I have.

 

The technician pulled me aside and brought me back there as I kept making a fuss about wanting evidence. Everyone just kept saying, "well the paperwork will say the tsb is complete". But I said I wanted the actual number. Today I was a squeaky wheel.
