Yeah the fox I wear now is going on 5 years. No super hard impacts but everything I read says it’s time to replace.

haha that reminds me of a kid that posted in a local nj biking group a couple months ago that his Carbon Stumpjumper fell off the back of his car rack and proceeded to get demolished by an 18wheeler. rough day.... but goddamn you gotta protect your baby(ies) and secure them tight!

Thankfully, I think he came out as best as he could because it wasn’t full interstate speed.

I have two Troy Lee Designs A2’s. Love them. Light weight, breathe well and fit my head well. Pics because I love this helmet so much...

yeah, it was discussed here. I found it in St George liquor store. for what it's worth. So the other ones around our parts of town should have it.

Which has always made me wonder if the helmet expiration date thing is a crock-O-shit made up by the helmet companies to sell more helmets.

Its because the EPS foam that comprises the impact absorbent bits of helmets harden over time (used frequently or not) and after 5 to 7 years, the safety margin isnt up to snuff anymore. Will it still keep you from knocking your noggin? Sure. Will it perform as well as a new helmet? No, and thats where your personal probability math of helmet cost vs head trauma hospital bill cost needs to play in.

I'll second the TLD A2 recommendation. I've always worn Giro, but just switched to this and it's really comfortable.

@Bentrodder try on whatever helmets you're thinking about (or at least make sure there's a good return policy). I really wanted a Smith helmet, but it just wasn't comfortable on my head.

Much like everything else, what a company can certify vs whats still "good enough" for people is a big difference.

So kinda a last ditch effort here. I bought some I9 enduro 305's with microspline to switch my bike to 12 speed. Bought a shimano Deore xt groupset. I.E. rear cassette, shifter, and derailleur. Installed everything and I cannot for the life of me get it to go to the biggest cog. I have tried everything. Its almost like my bike is not meant for 12 speed. The derailleur can't even be moved over far enough to get the cogs in line. It shifts the other 11 gears with no problem. The high, low and B screw have all been adjusted. I put a new hanger on. I even had a friend come over and we were both baffled. Am I missing something? Did I waste all that money just to go back to my stock set up?

that's strange. is the derailleur a 12 speed erailleur? also, does the shifter click 11 times properly (so you can go from gear 12 to gear 1 and vice versa on the shifter)? The only other thing I woudl think is that the cable isn't tight enough. or your high limit screw is stopping it from going but you said you have that set correctly.

The only thing that is different between shimano 11 and 12sp that i know of that b-sure adjustment is set based on the indicator on the back of the derrailleur cage. You said you did b-screw adjustments but that might be worth noting

Yeah its a 12 speed. I have checked the part number a hundred times just to make sure I wasn't missing something. The shifter clicks 12 times, but once it gets to 12, it either clicks and skips back and forth off the cog, or it won't shift at all.
