Everyone running E rated tires here? About to pick up a 900lbs camper. My current C rated give me plenty of room before maxing out with over 5,000 lbs. spare, 255/75/17 Duratracks max psi at 51. But I guess its more in the sidewalls for wobble. Just don't know what people are experiencing. No serious off-roading and will be using this camper for extended weekends and holiday breaks. Any advise appreciated.

 

I'm 6,600 lbs dry with a basically permanently mounted camper. I am using e-rated tires for the sidewall puncture resistance. I have even recently thought about going back to C-rated. For a weekend warrior / several week trip I think see rated would be fine. My 2 bits

 

I appreciate the insight! Most punctures I've have been at high speed with metal with I doubt an E rated would have prevented, possibly less deep but still a puncture repairable with a plug until you can patch. I'm aware that ply rating doesn't necessarily mean 10 layers but more curious about stability from something "rated" at 6 layers since I travel with air compressor and puncture kit. I have airbags and medium duty Dakar's too.

 

I think you'll be fine. You can always try it out. If you get too much sway like I did, you can add a $300 Helwig rear antisway bar. For me, it was a game changer

In a four wheel camper you can as long as you can fit under the roof which on mine is only 26" above the seat

 

Ok. FWC owners... Specifically fleet owners. I'm looking at heading down the long process of purchasing a Fleet. Major PITA to acquire one but I'm looking...

I have a 2020 OR. I'm seeing Air bags and maybe AAL would be the minimum suspension work that I would need to do. If I'm getting rear suspension work done I'm leaning towards upgrading the front end too. Can you guys point me in the right direction for info on what to get done..

I'm guessing this would be more of a suspension question rather than camper question.. But this is directed specifically at FWC owners. Thanks

 

Load Range E tars. If you're going to do the front suspension look at Bilstein 6112's. Headstrong Offroad is a vendor on here and they'll hook you up.

It depends upon whether you’re planning on mounting the Fleet full-time or part-time. If part time then I would definitely do at least the add a leaf option with airbags in the rear as well as upgrading the shocks all around. However if you’re going to leave it full-time on the truck like we did I would go with a custom rear leafsprings and 2 1/2” reservoir shocks. With our weight, 6800 pounds with a full tank of gas and recovery gear but otherwise empty, our BP-51 setup is set at the maximum of 10 on the shocks.

 

I haven't gotten that far yet. I live at 9600' in CO so driving that around with a full time camper wouldn't be ideal for me.. I don't think.

I think it would be an April (springtime ski trip) - October (desert trip) deal for me. Then maybe sell my current shell and just use a tonneau cover for heart of winter driving.

 

Gotcha. I drove around CO for 6 weeks this fall putting on 1,000 miles going over many of the highest MT passes including Imogene Pass and the motor was definitely getting its exercise.

Step 2 get Falcon tow haul shocks front and rear

step 3 get air bags and load range E tires.

 

The Camp series looks pretty cool. It looks like the M series are the ones built for a Tacoma. Although stupid light, I need more space. The over the cab bed is ideal for the GF, myself and a 70lb dog.
