2019 taco new license plates stolen last night

    Only aesthetic mods so far Leer 180 cap & Clazzio covers on order.

    CT stopped issuing expiration stickers many years ago. Plates themselves are issued for life (of you and/or the vehicle). Just send in the check - that's all DMV wants at the end of every renewal period. Law enforcement has instant access to the DMV records for the purpose of verifying ownership and validity.

    Theft of the plates does occur but doesn't seem to be common problem, unless you're in the major urban areas.

    We used to have that problem here in PA much more when we had registration stickers on the plates. People would steal plates to try to drive with out paying the renewal and paying for car insurance. The state used to only check when you renew if you had insurance so you could not get a new sticker with out insurance. Now with no sticker since 2017 you doand insurance telling when coverage is lapsed
    Pennsylvania stopped registration stickers in December 2017. Getting a plate or sticker that's not expired was the only reason left to steal one. Now they read the dmv record and average Joe would not know when a sticker expired.... They are all showing expired now. It used to be a thing here but not heard of it happening in a while.

    That's what I was gonna suggest .. Sadly ... There are some states (Like here in WA.) ... Where unless you have vanity plates, they send you a new set of plates every 5 years, whether you want them or not. Filling in the 'security' torx bolts with some sort of goop in a great idea, till it comes time you have to replace your own plates.. :eek:

    Think I'll try stainless spanner bolts with locknuts and washer behind. First the theif would have to have a spanner tool and then it will just spin around without a wrench for the back .. But I really do like the pop rivet idea.

    I personally use security torx to a nylock nut on the backside. Had some peeps try to steal my ham plates here in CA a few times. Seems to have remedied the situation.

    take a box cutter and hash cut into them so if they try to steal they come off in pieces.

    If you live in Cali what we do is once you put your month and yearly stickers on the plates you use a knife to cut the sticker in pieces so when they try to steal them whole they'll grab only a piece.
