I checked that too. Its almost like the hanger needs 2-3mm shaved off so that it can get the extra adjustment. But the hanger is brand new. Another thing, the old derailleur the hanger with in between 2 pieces for it to mount, whereas now it just mounts to the outside.

That sounds weird, youre talking about the actual hanger on the bike or the attachment on the derraileur? You said you couldn’t push it into position by hand right?

    what bike do you have?

This is the farthest I can get the derailleur over. As you can tell thats inline with the second largest cog. However counting clicks its supposed to be on the biggest cog. But it just won't go over any further.

This string of posts reminds me on how much I hate adjusting rear derailleur’s. I’m going to throw this out there but you may need a new derailleur hanger with the 12spd on your bike. I’m probably totally wrong.

Whoever mentioned the cable tension is probably correct.

I despise it I really do. However the shops around here are not to friendly, at least in my experience. I put a new hanger on today.

Are you for certain it’s the right length? I could easily see giant not putting the same one on all trance models especially if they had some 12 and 11 speed models that year.

This sounds like a cable tension issue to me. Did you start by turning your barrel adjuster all the way in/clockwise to remove tension? Once you do that, you can properly set your H limit and then go from there.

As far as I know it is. I was unable to find another hanger that fit my bike. I bought the direct mount hanger. Which should be the correct one.

Sure did. Nothing changed. When I got close I tried adjusting it with the barrel adjuster and all that did was make it harder to shift up, still change nothing.

    not enough.
did you put in a new cable and new housing? or did you reuse the old ones?

You can push that derailleur but only as far as just past 2nd gear according to your picture. this is VERY strange indeed. What happens when you loosen up the cable tension and then push the der. can it go all the way to 1? try just undoing the cable entirely and pushign the der. around. it should go all the way up. If it doesn't, check your hanger straightness and then your high limit.

If it can go all the way after you undo the cable, then it's the cable. Just redo the cable. maybe even a brand new cable.
if it doesn't go all the way after you undo the cable, then there is something weird at play with your der springs. might even be the high limit again or the hanger straightness. Also, check to make sure yoru cassette is locked in all the way. I've seen weird shifting issues because the cassette wasn't on properly.

little video from yesterday that dude we rode with made.... that 4 runner at the bottom went a little too hard in the paint... haha looked to have sheared the spindle clean off of the lower and upper arms... :bananadead:

Fun trail has a few pretty gnarly spots... as usual video doesn't do it much justice.

New cable, old housing. Tried it all to no resolve. However, I took the b screw thing that is on the back of the der. off and essentially sandwiched the hanger in between the b screw thing and the derailleur. And now it goes through all the gears. its still got some fine tuning but that will have to wait as I broke the chain doing some testing. The chain broke where I took out 3 links and added them back. New one is on the way. Will report back.

UPDATE: It appears as though I require a different derailleur hanger when switching to 12 speed. I have ordered a new hanger and that should remedy the problem. Thank you all so much!! I really appreciate the responses.
