Yes and Yes, keeps you busy while or if you need to wait...

After reading a few reviews from TW, it may be expensive to maintain though.

That's a big one. Allen wrenches and SAE sockets. The sdhq billet terminals are a mix of sae and it drives me insane.

Same reason as me. Stay here though because everyone over on the Tundra forum is old and have no sense of humor. Hell I'm 58 and am much younger than those assholes. Oh... they know everything, change their oil every 3K...

I get it.....and I do make sure my truck is maintained before and after, but as we all know....even well maintained trucks break....shit happens! When you’re on long trips you need to inspect your rig after making camp to find some thing that might’ve happened. We don’t all go on one day or weekend trips and then go back to our nice cozy garage shop to see if anything happened.

I have my AAA plus card as well. Had to use that in Mojave at Dove Springs with my truck that had some type of ignition issue that couldn’t be solved. Luckily AAA plus towed it 100 miles back to home Mojave. The service mechanics couldn’t even figure it out. It just fixed itself and would randomly come back at the most in opportune moments. Finally just got rid of that thing. Never did figure out why it was doing it. Again, a situation where it doesn’t matter if it’s brand new or not they can break.

a little of both. No extreme rock crawling though, but enough that you still hit shit you don’t want to.

I'd say socket set with deep well and the roll up tools someone posted. Also a tire repair kit the best you can find, nothing cheap. Also a 12 volt air compressor and first aid kit and extinguisher, Max Trax.

You know there is no place in the continental US that is further than 25 miles from a paved road or a town further than 150 miles from an interstate right?
In the late 1980's I was heading to a series of mines in Siberia on a one month trip. We went over 500 miles on dirt to goat track to logs laid over mud. Did not see pavement for over 500 miles. On that trip our guides had every tool and spare part needed for the Land Cruisers. We even had spare wire rope for the winches.
My point, in a trip like that, you need every tool and spare and more important you need imagination. In the US (you can still get remote in Canada and Alaska) you really can't get further than you can hike out to a hard road to get help if needed.

I get that as well....that is why my original post asked what was essential in an effort to pair down what I usually bring ( i even had that spare CV for my land cruiser once). Why walk miles if you could have fixed it with a 14mm and a hose clamp. If I totally mess things up and can’t repair it ....I will use my HAM radio, get a ride from my trail partner or walk out. But I would be pissed if I could have fixed it in 5 minutes with simple tools tat only are up a small amount of space and weigh only a couple of pounds.
