In the market for a new jack, last one was Chinese and rusted. Hi-lift jacks seem to be powder coated, how are they holding up for you guys?

I bought the all-cast version about 8 months ago and haven't had any rust issues yet

If it gets chipped paint after using it. Wire brush and a rattle can should fix it.

If you use it regularly they rust faster, but as a general rule, all hi-lifts are necessary, rusty, potential death machines.

none really. I have the more expensive extreme one and it's rusting like crazy from just being there. I just moved it to a new location but ultimately will likely ditch it.

If you use it, it will rust. It's design makes it a certainty. Use it and touch it up.

Only aesthetic mods so far Leer 180 cap & Clazzio covers on order.
If it's made out of ferrous metal (iron-steel) it WILL rust when oxygen/water can get to the metal - fact of life. Coatings (paint, powder) protect as long as there are no breaks in that coating.
Aluminum corrodes as well. Depending on what it's exposed to, it can evolve into a spongy weak mess with no strength.
Maintain the coating and all is good. Don't maintain the coating and, guess what, rust or corrosion.

I couldn’t agree more! I’m not a fan of HiLift jacks. I recently bought one for my off-road car and hated it. Returned the next day.

How much rust are you talking about? I have a Hi-Lift and it has surface rust on the contact points as one would expect since it gets exposed to the elements when I have it with me. You can't expect any paint to remain in those places. Exposed steel rusts with the exception of some expensive alloys. US steel rusts the same as Chinese steel. How would you even know where your steel came from? I keep the mechanical parts lubed and don't worry about the rest. It's not like a Hi-Lift jack is expensive to replace. Don't freak out about it?

$349 buys a lot of spray cans of paint.
Clean it up good and spray it with wax.

If you're using your HiLift enough that it rusts you have a bigger issue. I never needed mine in 8 years and lube it and make sure its working just in case. They also make a cover for it to protect it.

I disagree. I've used mine only a handful of times and in all cases just to learn how to use it. I think a single use is enough to remove paint from the contact points and assuming you expose the jack to the elements it is going to form rust (CAVEAT: I live in a moderately wet state and I store mine in the bed when I go on off-road trips.).

It wasn’t the origin of the steel that I cared about, it just wasn’t painted well from Harbor Freight. It surface rusted right through the crappy paint job. Im just making sure Hi-lift has better coating than Harbor Freight...

My 38 yo has rusted it’s entire life. They are steel. They’re going to rust. Just tear it down clean it and repaint.

I do this about once a year and replace springs and such as needed. There isn’t really much to wear out on them.
