After suspension upgrade, what other parts need strengthening?

    First time posting here.

Bought this kit a few weeks back:

I am nearly ready to install, just waiting on the UCA's. I have been told by some that I need to upgrade 1) tie rods 2) sway bar linkage 3) steering knuckles/spindles with a weld on gusset if I am going to run this set-up. FYI I am planning on running 2.5" lift in the front, if that makes a difference.

    My Question:
Do I really need to upgrade any of this? If I do, which of these parts should be my top priority? Is there something else, not listed, I should focus on?

In addition, I have been told that if I am to upgrade the sway bar linkage, I should look into detachable links for off-roading. Worth it?

Thanks in advance. This is my first real suspension build and I want to do it right.

No you do not at the moment... That some be they complete set up... A lot of people run without those upgrade for the longest time... The question is what do you plan to do?

I plan on doing light off-road stuff, mostly BLM roads with the occasional Moab and Canyonlands trails (nothing difficult, though). I like to do some fast driving on those desert roads, but never anything above 55mph.

In your case then doing the steering knuckles/spindles welded gusset is a plus.... other upgrade you can slowly do it...

If you plan on driving fast, I would install cam tab gussets and spindle gussets at a minimum.

I'd do cam tabs and spindle gussets before you start mobbing down desert roads. Maybe better bump stops too. I'd also throw the sway bar in the trash.

None of those upgrades are completely necessary for light off roading though

You won't need to reinforce the swaybar linkages if you don't run a swaybar. I ditched mine when I upgraded my suspension. I agree that cam tabs should be upgraded. As for the stuff OP listed, unless they are completely shot you don't really need to upgrade them for the driving you described.

I have the same kit with SPC UCAs and the Tundra rears.

No, you don't need any of those upgrades. If you have a tendency to hit rocks with the sides of your front wheels then a spindle gusset may be suggested. I have yet to bend a spindle, but my truck is the only vehicle I have so I'm careful when I'm wheeling offroad. In all of the posts I've seen concerning bent spindles, the owners either abuse their trucks or hit immovable objects, like curbs.

Enjoy your new suspension, I love my kit.

I totally agree with you guys... if you can weld the gusset and cams tab your self go for it... it a cheap mods, doesn't cause a arm and leg to do... it will just give you some piece of mind..

the most inportant thing imho is the needle bearing. It needs to be swaped out for the ecgs when doing any type of lift or it can blow into your front diff. All the other stuff you mentioned will last so long as your not jumping your truck and doing stupid shit.
