    I just bought his thermostat from a Toyota dealer. It looks rusted? Let me know what you guys think.

    For me.. it's a part you don't need issues with .. I'd return for another...

    make sure that little jiggly thing is at 12 o’clock when you reinstall and send it

    I wouldn’t think it would be a problem.
    .........But if your having doubts I would take it back and compare it to another one out of the box.

    Definitely looks funky. If it were me, I would swap it out for another.

    The dealer checked all the other thermostats with that part number and a few others and they all look like that. They said it’s some sort of coating Toyota is doing now..

    I'm not buying that crap about a coating. But I don't think it is anything to concern yourself about.

    Probably from all that salt air when they come over on the container ship. A little 400 grit emery cloth and use it.

    I've bought a lot of dealer tstats over the years. None ever looked like that. Then again, I don't live in the carribean with all of that salty air.

    Put in boiling water, if you're that concerned. Make sure it functions properly. All good? Drop it in.
