Luckily the only weird gremlin I’ve had was an oil full sensor that went “bad” that was due to a squirrel chewing thru the wire. I have 115k on it and the only other issue was with a dpf hose that was covered under the 11 year 160k mile warranty

At about 100k, my Jetta started opening the windows and the sunroof on its own. Then the rear door electric locks stopped working. Also, it keeps going through batteries. Now at 150k it’s leaking every type of fluid in it. The alternator failed at 110k. Every bearing and bushing on it is worn out. I tried to make it last but it’s just not. Now, my Tacoma has 135k miles and there’s not a single major issue with it and I don’t really see that changing.

I mean it could be age related (mines a 15) and because I put 30k miles on it a year nothing is worn out due to age yet.

It is funny reading about what years to avoid (for any car) and no matter what the current generation is rock solid, the previous is pretty good, but go back two and you’re just asking for problems.

I’ll probably be back in a Tacoma within two years though

My wife and I just got rid of an Audi A6 quattro and that thing was an absolute tank. Crazy in the snow and just an all around unit. There are definitely quirks with VW/Audi but the two I’ve owned were fantastic. If that lifted sportwagen could pull my trailers I’d be all about it. But for now, my Tacoma is safe and my wife just got a brand new electric whip so I can’t even swing her on the idea.

I had an ‘02 Passat wagon before my Tacoma and it had very few issues all the way up to about 210k miles. Chewed through rear brakes a bit fast and the last 20k or so it consumed a fair amount of oil but otherwise great. Factory clutch still held strong, everything electrical still worked, turbo still spooled quick, remarkably stable at well above the speed limit. Really loved that car, but everything considered, the Tacoma is a much better and more fun vehicle in my opinion

I'm way too tempted by the MK8 Golf R...I just have to keep telling myself I don't have to replace wheels on my Tacoma lmfao.

Unfortunately there aren’t any awd 6 speeds that I know of in the us. My brother just got a 6 speed tdi sport wagon. Love the thing but no awd options in 6 speed suck here in the northeast

I don’t like that everything on the mk8 is touch screen. Even the steering wheel controls are touch with haptic feedback (like when you type on phone and it vibrates)

Yeah, I was really hoping for a diesel, 4motion, stick wagon but after dieselgate that’s probably never going to be an option again. The 1.8t is still a great engine though and the 6 speed in that really brings it to life, especially with a tune and bolt ons.

agreed! I had a Tiguan before the Tacoma and I hated I had to choose between 6 speed or awd. I went awd and just accepted it

Thanks man! I am interested for sure. Do you know if they are the same as the 2020 headlights? I feel like I read somewhere that the 2020s had different headlights than the earlier 3rd gens.
