I used to rock a $40 walmart helmet when I had my first scooter. Makes me look like a damn bobble head. Still have it somewhere.

@RobP62 I like what Harley has done with the Pan America. The brakes. The spoked wheels, tubed frame, etc. They’ve done their homework for a adventure bike to compete with the market. Might be a tough sell for them though as the market seems geared towards the tried and true bikes out there like BMW, Honda, Triumph and Ducati.

But, a 1250cc with 145hp and 90lbft torque is respectable for a big bike.

I can’t find the specs on the weight but my bike weighs in at 550lbs soaking wet and the adventure is closer to 585lbs.

I think the problem they are going to have is, for anyone looking to buy in what is now a saturated market the question will be, "why Harley". If it is just another ADV bike they aren't going to gain much if any market share from the established players. Unless they can offer something other than the brand name then it is too little, too late.

My softail weighs over 600 pounds stock so I’d wager the Pan America to be deep into the 600s, if not low 700s.

they’d need that extra power for the heavy bike.

I use to race a CBR600RR. Model years between 2007 & 2010 were such awesome motorcycles.

That HP value must be achieved at well pasted the 5200 RPM standard for Dyno of V twins. Looks like off set jugs probably with side by side crank rods.

Keep in mind that new Pan America is using the new liquid cooled, dual overhead cam engine more akin to the V-Rod than to a normal HD powerplant. Comparisons to any traditional Harley is an apples and oranges sort of thing. Stuff like weight and power numbers will be way different.

Yep, if my old man brain is working this early the vrod was 76+ cu. in. and about 102-106 HP at rear wheel but that was at 8250+ rpm. It will be interesting to see what real world numbers are when someone is able to put one of the new models on a dyno.

In my opinion, bikes like this are geared more towards purists of the sport. Overlanding on a bike is definitely not impossible but you have to be seriously hard core and a minimalist. I also see this coming in at over $20k. Compared to other Adventurer bikes though, if you're a H-D fan, then why not? I think H-D is tired of seeing bikes like the KTMs, BMWs & Ducatis getting that market segment money.

Well, the 1200 Custom is only 556 lbs dry. This is about the same as a BMW R 1250 GS (591 lbs wet). Also, the Adventure has a rated output of 136 HP @ 7,750 rpm, Max. torque 105 lb-ft at 6,250 rpm. Those are very respectable numbers.

Yea, it won't be light by any means. At least judging by the size of it in the commercial.

I agree, but to take that farther, most people don't even know that H-D developed a bike to be used by our armed forces during WWII, the H-D XA. It had a flathead engine and was shaft driven. I think this might do that again to compete with the BMW which the XA was designed after.

If they load it up with a lot of extras, I could see that. I think though they are going to try to reduce weight as much as possible with features like the Buell had.

Flathead design :spy: More reliable, less speed, more torque.

I agree 100%. It looks like it has a 10 gal tank too! LOL

I ultimately traded my Road King for a Night Rod Special. The NRS needed the little divot in the seat to keep you there. It was a rocket on two wheels, even with my fat ass on it. I remember the first time I opened it up on I-83.
