I $500 deductible for collision and $50 deductible for comprehensive with my insurance. They will recommend a repair shop but I am free to take it anywhere I would like.

Ok, So I took my truck into the Safelite shop that my insurance company recommended. I asked them if they were going to be using an OEM windshield. They said no it was an aftermarket windshield which was the same as the original except it didn’t say “Toyota” on it. If I wanted an OEM I would have to get my insurance company to approve it and they would get the OEM windshield and install it.
So I told him do not install the aftermarket windshield and called my insurance company. All I said was the truck was one year old yesterday and I would prefer an OEM windshield rather than an aftermarket. My insurance company said no problem we approved it. I went back in the office and They said OK, we see it we will have your OEM windshield here on Tuesday!

I had a replacement Windshield in the past on other vehicles without issue. It was gonna cost me my $50 comprehensive deductible no matter why it being that the truck was still fairly new I went OEM. If where older I probably wouldn’t of cared as much.

LOL. All this glass replacement talk is definitely not applicable to AZ where I've had my windshield replaced already (4) times in the year and a half I've had it. But it is a no fault state and a great state to have $0 glass deductible. I did not take it to a safelite for recalibration since their schedule did not work for me. Had them all done at a dealership, where I would pay out of pocket $500, then have it reimbursed in a week or so from Geico. I could care less about OEM vs. Aftermarket glass because here in AZ a big rock will get kicked up at you, its just a matter of time.

How is it not even 8 years old (technically true but off by 6 years or something). Do we calculate a trucks age with truck-years? like dog-years ?

its pretty much luck, my brother wanted a oem glass for his f150 since his original lasted 6 years. So I got him a fancy oem window for 550 bucks. He got a crack not even half a year later.

My dealer didn't replace windshields, they contract it out to a local glass company (ie Gerber, safelite) We had my wifes prius done last year and my insurance paid for everything, including the calibration, but i watched the install and the tech did not unplug the camera, therefore it didn't need calibration. No error or warning lights. I still had it calibrated anyways since i was already paying my deductible and it was no additional cost OOP for me. But it was approx $600 IIRRC for the dealer calibration, and if needed to be done in the future, i'll just replace the windshield and not calibrate if no warning lights.

Of the three windshields I’ve had cracked from flying rocks only one came from a semi....the other two came from lifted 4x4’s with offset tires and no mud flaps.

Edit it man, I'm surprised it took this long for anyone to question how/why your 8 year old truck even has a camera.

Fun Safelite story: Wife had the chip turned crack overnight on an infiniti. Safelite did the repair. 1 year later car starts having all sorts of problems (out of warranty). Take it to a dealership to diagnose. Dash is filled with water because windshield wasn't sealed properly. Wire harnesses are all drowned and starting to fail resulting in the myriad of problems. Contact safelite about lifetime warranty on labor and they send their adjuster to the dealership to review. Repairs approved by Safelite. $17k of electrical work performed over the course of a month. We have kept the car because everything is working flawlessly now (I was on the fence about keeping a car with that level of electrical repair). Lots of little details I skipped over so there are answers to 'how did you not notice?', 'wasn't xxxx and yyyy a thing?' but they just don't matter to this story.

The tldr: Safelite did a crappy job on an install. Safelite was easy to work with, quickly accepted fault, and made it right at considerable expense. So I'd give them a 5/7 would probably use again.

I had my windshield bust 2 days ago parked in 107 degree heat started the truck fired up the AC 2 minutes later BOOM a foot long crack in a perfectly good chip free windshield DAMN that's the first one in 38 years.
My insurance (state farm) agreed on a factory replacement including all the senser recalibrate shit well 2 days later I get my truck back & state farm gets a bill for $1700.00 bucks are you fucking kidding me? My Porsche 911 glass was not that much! They can take all that lane departure, auto dim shit & shove it up Thier asses all of it is turned off anyway I'm tired of all the alarms & flashing lights going off on 2 lane roads is really annoying

Learn how to drive for hell sakes why do manufactures install this shit anyway are people so stupid they can't keep it between the damned lines or dim the lights?.....ahh yes they are that stupid! What they really need to install are text jammers making a text impossible to attempt while inside the vehicle or it kicks you in the nuts repeatedly THATS ONE I'LL AGREE ON.

In FL windshield replacement is $0 deductible. I just had Safelite do my front windshield because that was the default choice for Progressive and it came out to around $800-$900 with $0 paid by me. Took 3.5hrs from me walking in the door. When they pulled the car out to me the guy struggled pulling into a parking space gave up and just handed me the keys...I get in and realize they threw it in 4wd wonder if they took it out joy riding...

Why in th'Holy F**K would any sane person design a WINDSHIELD that contains that kind or tech when there are much less likely ways to have that tech replaced if they hid it in other ways? I bet the insurance companies LOVE it because they can justify huge premiums.
Jeezuz... we will buy anything as long as it is shiney enough.
