I ordered those Michelin’s yesterday and they’re at my doorstep now. Company I bought from was in SC. Can’t beat that, fedex shipping too.

Screw topic. I always had a soft spot for the RRC also. They are so, well, classic looking. Rover makes a vehicle with timeless looks.

Stilll in the Rover game? DiscoWeb was always a wild place but with tons of info. Finally reached the point where I realized what a hunk of junk the dang things are regardless of how sweet they look lol

RM makes decent bikes but that thing looks about 3 to 4 iterations back on altitude models. IMO is not worth that money and is out of date on most modern standards. $400 and I wouldn’t care but $1k you are getting into new bike territory.

Interesting, you think in 5 years the bikes are only worth 10% of initial value?

I've wondered about depreciation on bikes lately.

So when do you think we will stop getting drastic changes on a model every 2 years so that bikes age more like cars or even dirt bikes for that matter.

Seems like a pretty decent bike, you could upgrade as you break parts.
How does it compare to what you have now?

In short, yes. For $1k you are paying for this person’s mistake of holding onto this bike about 3 years past it’s prime. Do you think you could sell it for $1k next week if you don’t like it? If yes, then buy it and don’t look back.

That RM Altitude is 4 years old and it was the last year before they completely overhauled the thing. So that 2016 bike is really a design from 7 years ago. The next iteration of the Altitude is a sweet bike with update geometry. A 2018 Altitude is still probably worth a good amount of it's original value at 2+ years old.

Edit: To answer your question directly... My hot take is that we're in a bit of a lull in bike design right now. I think that many trail bikes from up to 4 years ago (depending on brand) are roughly the same as the models coming out right now. Yeti is a great example of this IMO.

It's crap compared to what I have now, but it's not really for me it's for friends and GF.

Hm, you make a good point. I feel $600 may make it worth it as I could sell for $800 if I don't like it.

I didn't think about that, I guess my current bike, 2020 Firebird, was an iteration from 2019, luckily they kept the design for 2021 too.

My Rallon is also getting kinda old by modern bike standards (going on 3 years!), but it's still considered to be modern geo and I see no reason to look at new frames.

Can we update the geometry of a bike to “modern” without taking away from something?

What I’m referring to is changing one thing for the better also could be looked at as taking away from elsewhere. With how well bikes are made today, aren’t most changes now just minuscule and only for the elites. Is a bike that’s just had Geo changes going to make me faster everywhere, or just somewhere and also slower elsewhere.
