I dont think chains would have helped. Woulda just sunk even deeper into the snow. I've never seen chains on any of the built rigs out snow wheeling (usually 4runners or other light yotas on 37-40s).

Guess the carnage the other day was another blown CV axle on the front right passenger (lol, that lasted about a month). Was hoping heavy-duty cardone would be enough but probably going to swap to CVJ for OEM quality since I get on my rig pretty hard sometimes.

Don’t waste the money on RCV axles. They blow often as well. They will warranty but you’re still out waiting while they fix them

RCV is a bit too pricey for what I do with my rig and I don’t want to blow my front differential. Honestly I am just doing CVJ since it’s OEM remanufactured which is what Cardone is supposed to be but idk that lasted me about a month or two lol.

CVJ is still a bit pricier too so it had me hesitate but I hesitated last time so decided to just go for it this time...were you meaning CVJs had torn on you?

Yeah man they were pretty stuck and didn’t have much to recover. Finally just had to put my bumper on theirs and push them out. Had to use all my recovery trax this trip and glad i had a shovel.

He posted about it on Facebook and I almost shared the pic of the Tacoma on here. Yeah, they admitted they were not prepared and were very thankful for you.

No worries man glad to help and thats why I bring my gear. It was kinda fun to go through the different recovery options and try to make it work. Some good lessons learned and hopefully they go more prepared next time to be safe. I did recognize i need 2 more more traction boards in case i want to use them as bracing points on my rig front tires to help winch. Might even get 4 more of the cheapos just because.

My new lift is being installed today. What do people do with their old struts and leaf springs? I don't know if there's any value to another person or not. They are the stock 2015 offroad bilsteins with about 43k miles on them. Do I toss them or could someone else find them useful?

With that mileage I would just post em up for free. Someone with a ton of miles would probably be happy to take them off your hands.

There's value to them. Just depends how long you want to hold onto them. Also can work as trail spares (just get a spacer for the front).
