Almost 90k on the original shocks and springs and the handling is getting pretty sloppy. The truck is for camping, adventures, dogs, and home depot. It's not a daily driver but I do take long road trips in it. Off pavement driving is mostly forest roads, national monuments, a lot of washboard dirt and gravel. My camping rig and gear adds about 1000lbs in the bed of the truck when its in place. I've got firestone airbags in the rear now which work great for leveling the truck and keeping it stable when under heavy loads, but it makes the handling a little awkward.

Old Man Emu looks like it might be right for me; maybe 885 coils and EL096R heavy load dakar leafs?

Has anybody tried this combo on a light weight short wheel base tacoma? Is there any other solution I should consider? Would I be able to ditch the airbags?

I’m in the same boat as you trying to figure out what to get. Curious what people will recommend. I’m kind of leaning towards a bilstein 6112 /5160 combo with the AAl or Heavy set combo from headstrong.

5100s and OME, or I found a new pair of shocks from a TW member and got a newish set for 100.

Any opinions on Bilstein vs. OME shocks when used with OME springs?

I do like the OME spacer for driver side lean. Keeping the truck level front to rear and side to side when loaded down on a long trip is a priority.

I'm not looking more than about 2" of lift. I don't expect to run tires larger than 31".

Watching. I posted a similar thread. 6112 looks appealing, but I haven't found any info about how they are on a light single cab. I don't want too much lift or a harsh ride. Also need to know what setting to use to get the desired lift. I think a viable option is to only lift the front, like under 2", and it would level the stance. New coils and shocks in front and just some matching shocks in back.

Singlecab with 6112s up front. Gave me over 3 inchs of lift with them on the top notch. Ride is definently stiffer. Not terrible. As it feels more like a truck to me. Maybe in the future i can take mine into a shop and get them lowered a notch. Other than that all is good. I ordered everything from headstrong. I was running 5100s on the rear. But just ordered fox 2.0 as my 5100 are shot after 1 year. If the 6112s ever go i think i would choose fox next time.
