Critter control again

What has worked for me in your situation to knock down the rodent population, is what the ranchers /farmers do. I run a genset in my sheds/garages for an hour and kills most of them. I have to do it a few times a year at least.
I pull the cowl on all my vehicles when I buy them and use chicken wire or hardware cloth over all vents. Then all hoods go up at night for some light to penetrate the engine compartment with snap traps on valve covers and glue traps sitting inside fender wells like undeneath the master cylinder.

 

I'd love to see a thorough anti-rodent thread that went over all the places to apply this tape. I've got a roll of it that I havent put on my 2020. My 2016 wire harness had to be replaced (NOT WARRANTIED AGAINST RODENTS!) only 2 weeks after owning the fucking thing. I was pretty damn pissed off. Cost me $1600 to replace the harness. They found a nest and had pictures. I keep my 2020 in the garage now, but I'd love to park it outside in the winter and let my wife have the garage since she drives more than me.

Yes, once you take the cowl off look in both the driver and passenger far corners of the cowl area. There is a large hole with direct access from the fender, same access where the air filter box is cut farther down the fender well. I put that vertical piece on but the removed it due to any water will not be able to exit the cowl, you will see once the cowl is off. I am going to put fine mesh there instead so water can still flow out if it gets in there, rain/snow. They are entering the cowl area there, then have access to the large hole for your fresh air intake and cabin filter/blower motor. You will see in the pic where I circled in blue. That is where it chewed the plastic mesh and entered. Also that mesh is not very small and small mice should be able to just scoot right through it.

 

I thought about that but I have ATV's and a Harley and don't know how seats, etc would fair?

 

Ironically I have moved the truck outside due to I know that is where at least one was that got in. Figured moving the truck around to get them out of the habit................

Yikes. It wouldve been interesting if it crawled up your pants while you were driving.

 

Don't give up on the underlying problem. I used 50 tubes of caulk to help address the pine squirrel access issue I had in our attic. I set traps. And I hired a professional exterminator. Now you also know why all barns have cats. Good luck!

 

Now I have a complete picture of what to do. My older brother has a 2015 and had rodents cause $2700 in damage to some wiring harnesses two weeks ago. Little bastards. Appreciate the help!

Another suggestion:
I use two of these on other rigs that have had mice probs in the past. One an F-250 that's parked outside and the other a full-sized Dodge van (95') parked inside the shop during winter.
For lack of a better term, I call them 'Mouse Squeakers' .... Electronic devices that plug into a wall socket and let out an earsplitting (Very high decibel) squeaking noise. I keep one under the hood of each rig. So far, both have worked great as to keep the critters away. Keep in mind though ... If your rig is in your shop/garage, and you are there at the same time ... The noise might drive you nuts. On the other hand, you can get used to it pretty quick. After 5-6 years, I don't even really notice it any more.
The other thing I've done is to leave little piles of mouse poison pellets on the floor in 3-4 spots in the shop. (If you have dogs, DO NOT let them in the shop!) This has also worked very well at keeping the little rat-bastards at bay also.
Plus, I spray the Taco engine bay down with 'Rodent Defense' about once a month. It's another 'peppermint' spray with some other added stinky stuff that mice/rats hate.
All in all .... So far, so good.

 

Hey, about 5-6 years ago, I went around the house and filled up the gaps (no matter how small) with that 'Great Stuff' expanding foam. They actually make that in several variants ... One, has rat poison in it. Has worked very well

Seem they have to chew to keep their teeth worn down. Modern plastics in my Kubota and in the Tacos fit the bill just perfect - for them. They even gnawed the spout off my diesel can.

Probably best to cover them to prevent claw damage.

Make a "nest" for the cat with padding. A small dog house in an area above ground level would work.

 

Love the Country living part, so I will deal with it.
