The two bolts I got were the same length. Worked fine. I could give you the exact length, but I would have to disassemble the installed handle to get that information. Not happening.

BTW, fears of snapping a "Chinese" bolt are misplaced. You don't want to torque them to that extent anyway. And if you did, the brackets would fail before the bolts.

Sorry, but I am not pulling mine again unless there is trouble. It is hard to miss the lower mount though.

It’s just tedious. Not much space to work, you can’t see the hole and it has to be aligned dead-on. Just take your time

    And definitely no bending!!

The bolts I have are two different lengths. The J nut sent is the wrong size.
For the few bucks it costs I'm replacing all three with high quality parts because it's obvious QC on the KTJO end is lacking and I simply don't trust it. You can do as you wish.
When I have exact specs and the source I'm going to use, I'll post that information.
Can't say I have ever regretted building something over spec'd.

The reason he used the tape was that he inserted the "J" nut from the bottom of the bracket. He should have inserted the nut from the top of the bracket. Also, the supplied nut (the correct size, in this case) was inferior to what you can get at Ace Hardware. That one has a built-in spring to hold it in place.

I would agree. I'm not looking to torque the hell out of these bolts just to be clear. However, if, for a couple bucks I can install stronger bolts I will. I'm planning on keeping my truck for a lonnnnnng time and I don't know what that handle will be like years down the road. With the provided hardware it might just be fine. Probably will be. Again, for a few bucks though I can take a potential, not known, weakness out of the equation. The actual frame bracket, as noted previously, may in fact be the weakest potential part of this whole modification.

Missed that. I see he posted something in the comments too about it.

TBH..I didn’t have much faith in the manufacturers ability to ever supply! I saw that TB was selling one so I ordered from them (I didn’t realize at the time they were getting it from that same supplier!). My order was confirmed on 12/6 and I received it on 12/29. No bending of anything and it feels rock solid

Maybe you should keep the Chinesium bolts, so if your head ever smacks it, it'll be more forgiving.

If he didn't bend anything, what took an hour?

After I got around to bending the clip, it was less than 15min total, included taking the angle pics.

Well, duh. Why didn't I realize that? I checked out my local ACE hardware store - no J nuts in this size. I'll check another local hardware store, I guess.

I asked that question on his Youtube page. His reply: It’s just tedious. Not much space to work, you can’t see the hole and it has to be aligned dead-on. Just take your time

Kinda why I was asking. If no bending or massaging I don’t understand the hour time frame.

Amazing that one gets criticized here now for simply wanting a strong grade 8 bolt and pointing out inferior Chinese quality when it comes to bolt manufacturing. Look at the threads you have on your bolts and then look at the threads at ACE on the machined bolts. The threads on ours are not precision when compared to the machined bolts at ACE.......
And instead of smacking my head on my handle, a more likely situation is the damn thing snapping in ten years after 180 pounds pulling on it daily, me losing balance and breaking my F'ing hip........

They're in the "metric" section of the hardware aisle, not in the "automotive" section. This kind of threw me at first. I guess inventory can vary from one Ace store to the next. Lowe's also has pretty much the same selection (same supplier).

I'd be interested in seeing if moving to a better bolt helps with the mounting process - easier to start threading, perhaps.? Spending a $ for better bolts and peace of mind makes sense to me.

Interesting. I haven't had that with the left or right side in the past or after the bend. As noted, I did spend an hour dicking with it pre-bend.

I don't know if it helps, but what I did was feel for the holes with the bolts, hold them in place while I slipped a socket and extension over, got the threads started, and spun them in. After that, I put the ratchet on and snugged them up. Probably took longer to type than do? Hanging with a solid COVID 25 packed on didn't seem to come into play. :santa2:
