Same here. No loss of fluid in the reservoir but I had a small puddle down by my passenger tire when I first noticed it. Tie Rod boots are still damp. I have no idea where the fluid is going or coming from if there's no loss. It makes no sense to me lol. But I do have a new rack/tie rods and high pressure line to throw in the truck once it warms up again. Probably going to get a new half shaft as well as recommended by others...just in case.

 

I ended up finding a crack in the boot so that explains the wetness. Grease was leaking out.

I’m still torn between changing the whole rack or just tie rods. Pat is making me think I’ll be ok with just tie rods, but for $140 more I could do the rack too..

but I really don’t feel like doing to work to change the whole rack..

might order the whole rack and only install the tie rods. Then I’ll have a spare rack..

 

Not sure where are you looking to buy your inner tie rods, but a little while ago Low Range Off Road had 2nd gen inners at pretty competitive price (They don't fit turd gens , so I didn't get them). Worth checking out if they still have/stock them.

i always figured the rack was a wear item, just like a differential, a transmission, or anything that has constant movement and mechanical interaction along with high pressure fluids involved. The steering box on my f350 was worn and I could turn the wheel about 15° before the tires started rotating, replaced it with a red head box. Do sector shaft steering setups have a different wear than a rack and pinion setup?

well to be fair, a lot of people wont openly share details to their off road spots...
its akin to sharing a secret surf spot or fishing spot.
especially in the north east where things like BLM is not exactly a thing we have...

if you read through this NJ thread alone, you will see many have shared that cunts reply...



for better or worse, not trying to take sides, just saying his reply was more typical than some may want to believe, gotta remember a lot of our off road spots are questionable at best if not blatant trespassing, that usually has a part in it as well.

Yeah I don't want to take sides but I definitely see it here as well. I'm most active in NY/CT threads but it's definitely not uncommon for people wanting to keep their spots secret. Although honestly I feel like both people could be more polite...

 

it always helps trying to join a group and become friendly with them first, then they are more inclined to share or invite
in the end though really all these spots are mentioned online in one way or another the dark web knows no boundary
just gotta research, maps, and techy shit like GAIA
