I've actually thought about getting an euro nymph rig. It's something I'd like to learn.

I've watched @Reh5108 do essentially the same tight line nymphing with his tenkara and outfish me a few times now.

I do. I like to run something easy to get down like a size 14 pardigion as my point fly then run like a size 22 chocolate thunder off a tag. I'm also a fan of throwing streamers this time if year. It all catches fish at the end of the day.

I just high stick with my regular rod, don't think another foot helps much. Sometimes those guys out fish me sometime I get them, I have sunk enough money into rods already.

I actually prefer my tenkara for tight line stuff in a lot of situations. I also try to stay away from the bigger streams I use my euro rod setup on though.

Only point of a longer euro rod is for the sensitivity IMO

One of the Utah boys, either Egan or Olson, did the calculations on it. An extra foot of rod length gets you just over three feet of reach. Definitely makes a difference when you're waist deep and need to get out to a seam.

That it does. If you can manage to lob leader well enough. I use a 11 foot

For the last two years I've had a 25' maxima leader going down to some amnesia, then sighter tippet, then tippet ring. The maxima actually casts pretty well...I've thrown indicators on there and been able to fish about 25 feet out. This spring I think I'm going to try out one of the euro lines with a 12' length of 3x sighter tippet.

I'm running rio's euro line and currently have a premade rio leader on it. I keep meaning to swap it for my maxima leader.

I picked up some more euro flies on sale can't beat 2 bucks a fly when it comes to euro nymphs.

Aw, dude, you can get 'em for way cheaper. Go to bigyfly.com, https://www.bigyflyco.com/items/flies-by-tactic/czech-euro-nymphs/list.htm

They're usually .60 to just over a dollar. The more you buy, the cheaper they are. They also have a pretty good rewards program. This is where I did all my shopping before I bought a vise.

I tend to buy in too much to the “you have to use size 26 midges to catch trout in winter” narrative. What have y’all been using the last few weeks that’s been catching?

    Black wooly bugger

Chocolate thunder emergers always get the job done for me. Especially tied off a tag with a heavy point fly

Had some good luck today. Wasn't expecting to be dry fly fishing today but I will not complain about dry fly fishing in December!

I don't lick the trout during the winter time. I'm afraid my tongue might stick.

Waterton Canyon produces better on big size 12 panty droppers than dumb little midge patterns
