Yeah, but they even know they are even being hunted???? Watched a video years ago of Pennsylvania's first 'modern' elk hunt which was a total JOKE!!!! The bull just stood there while the guide and hunter talked out loud at what looked to be well under 50 yards away and moved around to shoot it. The elk wasn't the least bit afraid of people. Is this similar???

I would have no idea about how Missouri and Pennsylvania manage their hunts. Keep in mind that this article says there hasn't been an Elk hunt there for a very long time. Personally, I just thought it was an interesting article and decided to share. Take from it what you will.

If they haven't been hunted in years, then this makes sense.

Wasn't trying to be critical of the post, just saying the video I watched of the Pa. hunt was like walking up to a cow and shooting it while it stood there watching you. And they talked about it being so great. Nowadays, I am sure it it much more challenging as they have been hunted for 15-20(?) years or more. They are now at least somewhat wary of man!!

Does anyone on here shoot a Howa 1500? Curious of input, pros/cons, etc. I received a Scheels gift card over the Holiday and might pick one up as a budget rifle to add to the arsenal.

Mostly stock with a few minor mods.
I'd like to know the same thing. I'd like to pick up a budget rifle in 6.5x55 Swede. Howas seem to be in the $500 zone. Just for handloading and range time.

I'll let you know if I pick one up soon / report back. I've read good things about the 1500, just hard to find experienced reviews on em. I've been leaning towards 300 win, but the 6.5PRC is enticing :)

You're better off buying reloading supplies than a rifle right now imo. I don't have any experience with howas but I would bet it would be a great rifle with a decent scope.

I have one...308 win Hogue overmolded stock and Bull Barrel.

Has an excellent trigger, crisp and clean

I haven't had much field time with it,
I picked it up last year for my 12 Y.O. son
He'd been using my AR10 or my AR15 in 6.5 Grendel.
This year he wanted to try my Win Model 70 in 7 Mag.
so this past youth season he used my 7 Mag. and scored a doe.

Another factor that I take into consideration is the ammo prices and availability of the weapon I'm considering.

Appreciate the input. Seems like most Howas (maybe all?) come with the Hogue stock from what I can find, not a bad thing. Also good to hear the trigger is quality. Thanks!

I bought one for my daughter about 10 - 11 years ago. .243 calibre. She's taken down 3 or 4 deer with it when she first got it. I haven't shot it in years but I would say this. For the price, it's a good firearm. I put a Nikon scope on it back then and it has stayed true.

If I'm not mistaken, Howa are made by Legacy and Weatherby is made by Legacy as well, from what I've read parts will interchange.

Not sure why it took me so long to realize when shooting at a deer there’s more room around them, than on them
