I use walnut shell lizard bedding. It can be a little dusty, but throw in a dryer sheet and it keeps the dust down.

I recently started adding case polish to my walnut shell media - it virtually eliminates dust.

And, the cases come out looking new.

If you want a cheeper alternative use NuFinish car polish. Works great.

First time I bought the walnut lizard bedding at petco the guy asked me what kind of dragon I had and I told him it’s for polishing brass. Dude asked me “like for doorknobs or something?” I’ll never forget his face when I told him about the brass it was actually for. Guy looked terrified, hahaha.

Take a step back and remember where you live ;) dragons are more socially acceptable than reloading/shooting.

I would have said "300 Blackout" and watched him try to work out what kind of dragon that was.

I am about to reload 9MM for the first time...

I have been looking in my load manuals, for a load for 9MM. I plan to load Unique and 124 gr. jacketed RN bullets.

One book says 5.1 - 5.7 (max). One says 4.1 - 5.1 (max). One says 5.3 is a compressed load. I am surprised to see such a large disparity in loads - and surprisingly minimal overlap.

Is anyone loading Unique, and if so, what charge weight are you using?

I think I will start with 4.7, and see how that works.

PS - Not new to reloading, only reloading 9MM.

Its been awhile since i tried unique in anything (like 10 years lol). But its a pretty "fluffy" powder from what i remember so wouldnt really call 5.3gr of it "compressed". More like packed down :)

My load data notes say I used 4.9gr of it with a 124gr RN bullet. Notes also say 4.6gr would not cycle my Sig P226, 4.7 wasnt the best ejection pattern, 4.8 was good too.

Id say start at 4.7gr and load up a few at 4.7, 4.8, 4.9, 5.0 and 5.1 and see which ones cycle, eject, and are accurate the best.

    Thanks.

That is what I was thinking.

I'll load 20 rounds of each weight, then off the range! :)

I played with Unique a little with 9mm, but found I like CFE Pistol a lot better. I was using 125 grain cast lead bullets. At 4.5 grains I had pretty wide spread on velocities, from 985 to 1207 fps. It tightened up when I went to 5.0 grains, low 1096, high 1170. At 5.5 grains it was the tightest, 1152-1195

I use Unique the most - have done so for many years.

Now that I have gone to the dark side (of semi-autos), maybe I should broaden my powder horizons. ;)

I will look for CFE Pistol, and try it. After the pandemic hoax, of course.

Could the 9mm charge be all over the place because of bullet diameter?
    I thought 9mm was .355.

I am just getting into the 9mm reload too. Told myself long ago i was not reloading 9mm...lol.
Found 2, 20 year old unopened 1pounders of #5 and #7 in the back of my reload stash!

These Berry's 124 RN bullets i got are .356 had me thinking it may increase pressure slightly over a .355? .355 seems to be what i pull up in reload data.

My old Speer book says Unique for a 124gn RN is 5.2-5.8 grs. With a .355 dia bullet.

    Nosler 4.6-5.6 grs

    YES !!!! 45-70 !!!
    I love shooting my 45-70’s

The great thing about loading these is you can load them hot or load them mild for the little ones. They are happy to shoot it and I’m happy to watch them.

What did you top those with?

I need to go shoot some, been having a hell of a time getting them reloaded. The bullets pictured i thought might not work, so got some other bullets, which were too long, then got some hard cast bullets that i thought would work so i loaded up 5 and find out they hang up in the barrel!! So found these and will try them. 300gr flat nose will hit hard

Those Berry's are cast lead correct? Cast lead bullets are always sized slightly bigger than jacketed bullets. You can generally use load data for same weight jacketed bullets, but as always start low and work up looking for signs of excess pressure.
