Options/suggestions for stereo?

If you have an iPhone the ILX-107 is a nice wireless carplay option. And no tacky lights. Also paired with Rockford Fosgate 6x9s I'm happy with the sound.

Also if the lower door speakers aren't working they're either blown or there's a wiring issue. The upper speakers are just tweeters meant to put out high range audio only.

 

Pioneer DMH-4660NEX. wireless android auto and apple car play. Adjustable widgets and realtime camera display. I have a module that allows it to work with stock audio controls as well.

 

YotaProject, What dash kit is that? I have the one like will.i's and i'd prefer a flush mount rather than having the lip at the bottom.

More than I originally thought I'd spend, but not ugly and I always listen from my phone, so it would be slick for that. I've been researching how to defeat the parking brake switch because having to do that seems super lame.

If you think you might like using carplay/android auto you might consider one that offers it in true wireless carplay/android auto configuration. That sony is solid, but for similar price this pioneer doesn't need to be plugged in for full functionality like the sony. My older 4600NEX is carplay only when wired, so I tend not to use it that much. Either will still connect to music/voice via bluetooth, but you don't get the full suite of apps unless wired.

The park brake mod was pretty easy to unlock full functionality, forget how though. I think it was just a $15 do dad wired in easily.

If you have steering wheel buttons, deg get the widget that hooks it up. I called crutchfield and the guys set me up with the best options and did all the pre-wiring for very minimal cost.

 

This is the kit I used. I can't find it in matte anymore but here's the same thing in gloss black. It's a cleaner look for sure, I had the frame that sunk into the dash before and never liked it.

Yeah, the wireless might be nice. In my Jeep now, I always plug in my phone and it's become habit. My wife has wireless and it's actually more of a pain because of the pairing nonsense. It's a Chrysler thing though, not android auto. What technology is the wireless for android auto, does it just sort of pair automagically?

The other thing about that Sony is that it has a lot of power built into it. I told the Crutchfield dude I wanted the best sound I could get without external amps or subs (just door speakers) and he picked some speakers that he said could take advantage of the 45W it has.

Funny thing is that to use the wired android auto, I'd get a $30 dash plug, which would mostly pay for the wireless option. Sony doesn't have a wireless option though.

 

I can't comment on the andriod auto pairing, I'm wired carplay. My bluetooth music does pair seamlessly to my pioneer when I get in, I just can't run carplay apps so I tend to just run google maps straight from my phone rather than plug in (I have a large phone display). Hopefully one of the other guys have wireless android auto experience.

I see the sony runs 45w RMS compared to the pioneers 15W RMS, so you have a point there. I ended up running an inexpensive JL audio 4 channel amp and an 8" sub behind the drivers seat to fill out my 6.5's so it didn't matter for me. What speakers are you looking at?

 

The sub is right behind the seat in the drivers side. The width fit perfectly between two of the threaded mounting holes in the cross cab rib. I did use a small 2x4 block under the carpet to compensate for the slope of the floor. I don’t have any pics of the sub or tweeter install, all I grabbed was a shot of the midrange in the stock door location:

 

This is what the guy recommended. I don't really feel qualified to second guess much. I'm open to opinions though.

It’s out of stock but this is a Nice head unit I was looking at this one but I went with it’s bigger brother. The bonus to this package as well is the amp that sits right behind the deck so it should be able to power almost anything that you’d want and the doors and in the rears. Other than my stock deck dying on me the major reason why I wanted to upgrade was CarPlay. The amount of dealership wanted to repair the stock navi system was ridiculous. As great as wireless CarPlay and android auto is it’s a huge battery drain, So you may as well just have it plugged into USB

I have JL C2-650X’s in front and rear and did the Subaru kicker tweeter mod

I'm happy with them, but you don't get a ton of bass out of any 6.5 so I sprang for that too. I see some folks have shoehorned a 6x9 in the doors to up the bass without a sub.

 

How did you end up mounting your crossover?

One thing that I realized is that I'll lose the aux input with this new radio. Did you retain yours? It's a nice fallback if you don't want to deal with bluetooth or whatever. I've never used Android auto, so I'm not sure what the convenience level is there.

 

There's plenty of room behind the door panel. I just used a couple sheet metal screws to secure it to a spot out of the way, you could even use double sided tape. Mounting the tweeter was a bigger PITA. I put it where the factory "mid-range" speaker was (the little one). The separate tweeter is much smaller, so you need to make up a mount that fits in that spot. I used some 1/4'oth plastic sheet I had laying around to bolt to the factory holes. You might check out ********* or similar to see if someone makes a plug and play mounting solution.

I did not hook up the old AUX port. Never needed it...Bluetooth works flawlessly, or I plug into the usb port for carplay/andriod auto.
