OBD-2 power

Hey all, I am at a loss here. I have an 02’ double cab. When I plug my OBD-2 scanner to the port, I have power and my scanner fires up, but I try to scan or wait for a minute or so, I loose power to my scanner and cannot scan for any problems. Does anyone have an idea of what may be wrong? I have checked all my fuses and all the wires appear to be plugged into the port.

 

I don't think 1985 supports OBD2
And some scanners have battery that needs to be fully charged to function.

Grab a test light and test your OBD2 port . At least verify the port is functioning correctly

The scanner powers up using a 12 volt reference , but the ecm runs on 5 volts to communicate . Maybe you dont have a 5 volt reference . Check it out

Thank you for that link, I will do some testing and see what seems to be the problem. Just seems strange that it has power, then looses it.
