Got it for christmas and this is my first time using it, honestly. This small one is very small, caught me by surprise when I opened it. So far so good though, it's nice for separating the nuts/bolts as I'm going. Haven't tried it on any uneven surfaces or anyhting that would challenge it's gripping ability.

Ribs are eaten, beer #1 has been dranks, and the seal driver as finished printing. Time to go back at it.

That bender was too small for 1/2". It was only $6 after my coupon, but still going to return it and try something else

This is going to be pic heavy, sorry, putting them in as thumbnails to help not clog things, hopefully.

Great! Seal drivers worked amazing and putting it all back together went pretty smoothly. I did something weird with the springs though.. I need to see how it feels once the snow clears.. Previously I'd put some heavy duty progressive springs in that were meant for F800's that have the Touratech adventure tank up front, figured I'd over shoot the spring rate since the stock ones are so wimpy and dive like a mofo. I think those have been in for two years and were pretty stiff, never really a huge fan. Well me being the cheap ass that I am and not wanted to pony up big bucks for emulators, cartridges, or replacement forks, I put a stock spring in one leg and an HD spring in the other leg. I figure if other bikes have compression and rebound in separate legs, that the springs being a few lbs off wouldn't be a big deal haha we'll see how that goes.

After the fork stuff was done, I pulled all the skid plate mounting rubbers. There were real worn out and one stud was actually sheared off and too short to put a nut on. Much more of a PITA to get those out than I was expecting. Just lived with 3 out of the 4 nuts the entire time I've had it :anonymous:

Ended yesterday with everything back together and the fiance was happy she could park inside when she got home haha

    IMG_4473.jpg

Got a lot done today, too. But I didn't get started working on the bike until like 1:30. Woke up and went to the hardware store for some shelf brackets and wood and make a shelving system for our loft. Fiance and I weren't happy with the storage or how junky it looked up there. This works for both, we think, now I have a place to keep my legos, too.

    IMG_4507.jpg
    IMG_4508.jpg

Then after that, a run to the grocery store, lunch, walking the dog, and shoveling the driveway for the first time (we got 5ish inches of snow today) it was time to work on the bike again! Stripped the body work, battery, air box, and got down to the valve cover. The gas tank is under the seat, so it's a bit different than most bikes to work your way down to access that cover. Used two more 3d printed parts today: a 3d printed coil puller and a set of covers for the throttle bodies. I didn't design them, just found the .stls on thingiverse. Worked great.

    IMG_4502.jpg
    IMG_4501.jpg

7 out of the 8 valves were in spec, one was getting tight and slightly out of spec. These are opposite of most valves and tighten up in clearance as they wear. It's close enough that it's probably fine for now and I'll worry about it next winter and get all of them back into the middle of the spec range. Found a couple hoses in the idle circuit that were cracked and probably leaking, so I'm going to order those tonight. It was pretty terrifying being in the head, not gonna lie. I was being super paranoid with dirt and debris. The left side of the cover you have to put gasketmaker on and it was a pain to clean the old stuff off without getting it into the timing chain area.

I sadly didn't get any pics of the cams, sorry y'all.

Slapped the valve cover back on with a new gasket (Lordy did it need that. The spark plug well was FULL of oil from the leaking gasket. Yikes.), some fresh plugs, and put the airbox back on. It's amazing how putting shit back together goes so much faster than taking it apart.

    IMG_4506.jpg

Pushed it back to it's side of the garage, and went out and shoveled the driveway for the second time today. Finished just in time for fiance to get home.

I left the body panels off for tonight, I'm hoping to do change the coolant and do an oil change tomorrow along with a new drain plug. I'd still like to change the front brake fluid too, but we'll see. Fiance has tomorrow off too and I should probably spend time with her. ;)

COOL, well apparently inserting as thumbnails means nothing and it just goes full size anyway. :annoyed:

I need to figure out how to bend the tube now. My idea with the HF one didnt work.. I guess I will try sand and heat, but Id like some sort of die to bend against. Or maybe I should break out the dremel and make my own out of the HF tool.. it was only $6. Im not sure yet. I know Im going to need a bunch of bends. They arent complex and dont need to be notched, but still..

    @GHOST SHIP any ideas?

Depending on how tight of a radius you need you could look at a conduit bender (available at HD or Lowe’s). Hell, you could even use conduit as your building material.

researching commenced. Is conduit weldable or would I burn through it quickly?

Different spring rates should be fine. Ive heard of it being done.

All valves (to my knowledge) get tighter with wear. The valve seat wears down so the valve gets pulled higher into the head causing the clearance to get tighter.
