From the TW groupbuy someone looked into new antenna vs the older one most of us have and got this reply. They are both 5G rated, so i think they are both fine and not much difference between the two. :

"The new 311229 trucker antenna has a slightly larger decibel gain range than your current antenna (311229 2.4 - 4.3 dB; 304415 2.5 - 3.5 dB), the cable is 1' longer, however, the 311229 can only get as high as 40" where the one you have can get up to 45" with all masts added. If you were to switch to the 311229 antenna I cannot guarantee you will see too much of an increase, so I would stick with what you have."

 

Good feedback. I plan to rock it as is for now but def was curious on any gains by swtiching.

 

Any photos, or product links of the cargo spreaders? I have a hard time imagining. This is what I do every summer, work remotely as a professor teaching online classes.

I can’t wait for Elon Musks Starlink to get launched. I put in for the beta, but no calls from them yet. 60mb down, 20mb up, with 30ms latency. And the dish is about the size of a pizza box and doesn’t need to be pointed. I could camp in the Drifter and work from anywhere. Now I have to camp near a cell tower.

 

I did the same thing when it was first announced. Pricing is not bad too, but I haven't heard back either.

I hadn't heard that the dish doesn't need to be pointed. That's promising.
The main question left in my mind is whether there will be any kind of data usage limits or throttling nonsense...

And yeah, I'll try to get a pic or two of the spreader bar in the next couple days, but it's really as simple as it sounds.

It works out perfect with the windows in the Drifter because you can use them to make sure the bar won't fall if it works loose.
And you can see how you'd need to be mindful about how much stress you're putting on the stitching and zippers.




And where I decided to stow it.

 

First trip out with the Drifter on semi-technical terrain, and also with all the interior cabinet framing and galley kitchen mounted inside. It did great! This is one of the main reasons I wanted this camper; to remain agile and light enough to do rough trail work and fit into tight spaces. We camped a couple nights at the Tortilla Ranch site in the Superstition Mountains, Arizona.

I want more information about this stove... that's super clean. How are you passing it through the side of the camper?

 

Also curious but In regards to the heater exhaust. How does that hookup/unhook?

 

It's done with custom fabricated stainless steel components:

1. The elbow mounted to the top of the heater; This is small tube (1" diameter exhaust) inside a large tube (2.5" diameter fresh air intake). The bottom side of the fitting is a friction-fit over the OEM tube inlet/outlet port that comes out of the top of the heater. The top side of the elbow that angles out comes right up to where the wall of the camper is, but doesn't touch it or pass through it.
2. The "sandwich"; This is a 2-piece flanged sleeve made for the wall of the Drifter. The sleeve goes through the camper wall at an upward angle (not perpendicular) so the tubes will maintain a good upward angle for good flow. The outside half of the flange has two female threaded nuts to receive threaded bolts that are inserted and tightened through the inside half of the flange. This allows the sandwich to fasten tightly to the camper wall, but not be permanent. Both sides are sealed to the Drifter wall surface with silicone.
3. The "covers"; There is a travel cover and an operational cover. Both of them have silicone gaskets and two mounting studs. The studs pass through the camper wall. Each stud has a groove near the end. When the cover is pushed in place, there are clips on the inside of the sandwich that slide over the grooves in the studs and lock them in place. The travel cover is a solid cover that is on when the heater isn't used. It seals the hole. The operational cover is on when the heater is used, and it has a hole in it for the factory Dickinson flue pipe to pass through. The factory flue is also friction-fit to the custom elbow on top of the heater.

The nice thing about this setup is that the flue is removable and only there when the heater is in use. And the elbow fitting, heater, and mounting plate are all easily removed.

 

Very nice! Exactly as you said I love that it’s removable but setup for maximum use when in use. If I go down this rabbit hole I am going to have to circle back on this setup. Well done!

Did not camp out in the snow fall yet in the Drifter. Waiting for the next SoCal Winter Storm to camp out in the elements for 2 nights.

 

We had a blueridge mountain gear tire storage bag that was recently stolen while parked in front of our house. Nothing was in it, but it still sucks. And we realized our the lock we had for our max trax rusted out and we should get a replacement before someone lifts those too. The pin hole is pretty small (see link). Anyone have a small lock with a long arm they have used or can suggest?

I tried to find them on the normal ace hardware site with no luck.

little bit of rust drip on the arm, but still going strong after a few years.
I don’t live in snow, but have had them in all types of weather for multiple days.

Was all over Arizona during the winter holidays. I got extra time off than usual to encourage covid separation and took advantage. Ended up chasing sun and warmth for the most part, and saw some beautiful remote country. Will post some pics later.
