If you have any type of bed cover or canopy I 100% recommend the full Bedrug. I’ve had a few trucks with them and the rubber bed mat isn’t in the same class. Bedrug is luxury.

Bed rug is okay if you're gonna use your truck as a mall cruiser and never like a real truck.

If you're gonna use it as a truck, bed map for sure.

If you have a cap on your bed, the only way to load (large) objects is by sliding them in from the back which is much easier with a slippery rug than with a grippy mat. Durability is not really an issue since it is protected by the cap.

I've got a bed mat in my truck under the tonneau cover. Its fine. I haven't any real issues sliding in objects or pulling them out. I've had everything from a heavy commercial dehumidifier to snowblowers and pressure washers back there not to mention 1300 lbs of cement bags. Bed rug imo, is for those who want trailer queens, or a grocery getter.

That tells me you have an opinion with no knowledge.
Ive owned a few Bed Rugs over the years.

Camping the bed rug is unbeatable.
Landscaped two houses gravel, trees, plants and lumber.
Commercial Fisherman and have had everything from nets to Engines on the bed rug.
Hunting it has had deer bleeding on the bed rug.

I don’t have a mall crawler my 1Ton truck has had a Bed Rug since new 2006 and still looks new.

I have knowledge based on my experiences - which may not match yours. And then, you should know what opinions are like ...
What is better depends on what OP plans to do with the truck and what his appearance expectations are.

I've seen some of those other aftermarket bed mats...their all thicker, and heavier looking than my oem mat.

I have the OEM bed mat and I love it! I plan to get a topper at some point and will probably by a cheap piece of carpet to put it in and remove if I camp in the back.

I have a bed rug and I like it. I don't think it's getting enough credit for it's durability ITT, but I also don't haul mountains of dirt (just camping gear in the bed).

Bed rugs IMO are disgusting. It's like the truck equivalent of a carpeted bathroom.

    I own a Tacoma pickup. I didn't buy a
4Runner. I don't own a Westfalia either. I'm a simple dude that uses the pickup truck bed to do pickup truck shit.

Lol what you are you going to do take the taco to get a load of stone at the gravel quarry? As mentioned I have both (actually all 3 bed mat came factory I’ve bought all of the bedrug options on Amazon warehouse deals for like 70% off). Bed mat if no bed cover. Bed rug xlt mat is what I’m currently running in mine covers the bed and tailgate but not the sides (keeps dust out well though on gravel). I also have a full bedrug I might put down. In long bed the bed mat probably weighs 80lbs, the carpet maybe 5. With my long bed and cap, bed rug is MUCH nicer for my use and it can easily be pressure washed. If it was a 1 ton dump truck I’d agree with your statement.

Don’t. I bought one of those too (bed rug impact mat- on warehouse deals). It was a hard plastic feeling thing and more slippery than the bed. Bed mat would be a better option there since they are more of a rubber and nit as slick. Sold it on CL for a profit. I paid $20 and sold it for $100 (retail $200).

I've had the same Toyota bed mat in my second gen and my third gen, best bang for the buck mod in my opinion, but if I ever get around to getting a topper I will go with the full carpet for the bed, and I figure I can throw the mat on top of the carpet for hauling dirty stuff.
