I have been sitting on a new set to go on my 08.....apparently for good while. They are 2nd version with 1st version bushings it looks like. My truck is prerunner lifted 1.75 and won't be articulating that much offroad so not sure any swap even worth it to get full forged with new bushing vs half forged and old bushing. Never had issues with first version with old old bushing on my 05 lifted 2.5 so that's why I don't know if swap is worth it for me. The ball joints that I have that came with arms are the serviceable ones so that is good. The ones that were on the 05 were not serviceable ones. Did a lot more sassifras with the 05 than the 08 will see and never had issue sooooo probably just gonna go with what I have on hand for the 08. The 05 had 18" wheels with 285/60/18 E load tires and 08 has 16" wheels with 265/70/16 C load tires so that is less stress on things too. Glad to see this thread tho and know all the variances and option to swap up if problems......thoughts?

i would run those arms you have with confidence, as per TOM at SPC the real issues where with the first version of arms and not the second version, it might be worth the few extra bucks and swapping out the bushings though

but, if you really wanted the latest version, you could easily sell the ones you have since they are new in a box, would only be a few extra bucks to make up for the new forged retail price difference

Yo just skimmed this thread, were the issues with the original tubular design wide spread? Recently installed SPCs and wasn’t aware of the newer cast model. Not that I’m too concerned I barely drive my truck lol

you know I am not positive but I think the first gen tacoma arms where not a part of this issue...

but yea it was the original tubular on each side that had the issues as far as i know
as far as wide spread or not... i guess thats arguable, but if you google around "spc uca failure" you will find a hand full of second gen tacomas as well as some 4th gen 4runners and even a few 100 series land cruisers that had catastrophic problems

I think I remember reading about it being something with the bushings along with failed welds. Which was the reason for the bushing re design

the new ones are forged, not cast.

i had the tube ones and older style bushings. it was pretty good. i traded those in for the forged ones with xAxis bushings and they do even better on my truck.
