Any idea on why it’s supposedly going to take them 2 days to change out your fuel pump?

If history is any teacher- my guess is they overbook the amount of vehicles they bring in each day and rather then hammer out one in two hours they dick around over the course of two days. They do provide a loaner truck- so I’m not out anything. I’m hoping I don’t have to fight too hard for the update but I’ll know in five minutes.
Happy New Year everyone! F 2020

You are correct! Overbooked is how they hit their numbers. Service writers use medium to large size jobs to ensure techs always have work,,, or best they can. So when soccer mom comes in with a gravy job (starts as dead battery, ends up with $1-2k in and other services) the tech is often pulled from the bigger 2 day job, and gets the gravy job out in a few hours. Look how many techs vs work bays there are (yeah I know, some are off that day).
I can't say I blame them, if techs don't have a steady stream of work, they are sent home early and the house doesn't make money either. The shitty part of course, is the customer waiting days while their vehicle sits on the back burner.

So my truck is there for the fuel pump and I asked them to do the TSB. You’d think I asked the dude if I could make sweet love to his new wife. I was shocked at the pushback and bullshit. He told me that in order to do the TSB, the techs had to replicate the issue.... Could that be true?

I was really surprised how much he pushed back. Is it super difficult to make the update?

If they end up not doing the TSB, would you guys recommend contacting Toyota or trying another dealership? It just seemed odd that me telling him my experiences driving this truck counted for jack shit.

Tell them they are not authorized to do the fuel pump recall if they aren’t going to perform the TSB, you will go somewhere else for service. They get paid for the recall, I don’t think they do for TSBs (unsure about TSBs though, maybe they get the .4 hrs)

That's dealer BS. This TSB isn't required to be replicated by the dealer/tech. It is a driveability concern and should be performed when asked to by the customer. If the vehicle is out of warranty, then you would have to pay the 0.4 hours labor cost.

Yes. That is the what a TSB is for. Fixing a more or less common problem based on symptoms found. That is why there were five different TSBs for the 2016s through 2018s that delivered the exact same software.

A few dealers are receptive and listening, most are not. From other posts, the same holds true at Corporate.

The plain fact is that it would be in Toyota's best interest to upgrade all ECU TSBs to a Service Campaign and invite all owners to get this done.

Yes. The dealer gets the quoted book time for TSB work. But, they have the procedure to follow. Some are willing to bend the rules to help a customer out, but most won't.

Of course that makes sense but it would be an admission of their fubar factory tuning! I don’t get it either. I think when they say it takes up to 1,500 miles to learn. It’s not the truck that’s learning , it’s the owner learning to get used to the shitty logic....

Well their decision can be made easier when they stand to lose 4.5 hrs if billable labor. Or they could replicate the issue pulling the truck into the rack when it shifts through gears 1-3 going 5mph in the dealer garage :D

I'm not saying you're wrong or being serious, just that there is half-hearted data out there.

It has been noted in marketing vids for new MYs at least a couple times as well as being subject to online surveys and even one that the dealers are supposed to complete.

Beyond that, the fact that folks traded their Tacos solely because of at 2mb file is just bad.

I appreciate everyone and their info- thx much.
It’s such a weird world of dealership service Game Of Thrones bullshit.
It shouldn’t be this difficult to get simple shit done. I explained the driving issues I’ve experienced and the service advisor acted like I was personally insulting him. Very very odd. I was very respectful and chill- and his response did not make sense for the situation.
He also tried to sell me a $400 extension to my Toyota care, which would cover two more years. He told me the 30k service is $300 so it saves a fair amount of money. This dude is shady AF so I’m not super inclined to believe him.

Just picked up my truck. They did the fuel pump recall but refused to do the TSB. The service advisor said the techs couldn’t replicate it so that can’t do it. I told him my understanding was that this was a TSB that didn’t require replication.

Basically just horrible customer service. I don’t understand why in the world he couldn’t accept what I was describing as a problem- which is mostly all addressed by a TSB. It’s crazy.
I’m not sure if I should contact Toyota or just try another dealership.

New truck has the lastest ecu. I hate the way the truck drives on the highway. Any slight incline lose speed and have to more than tap the throttle to maintain. Makes the truck feel underpowered when its not. I always turn on ect too. If this is the lastest and greatest programming feel bad for you guys not on it.

I'd try another place. When I went in for the fuel pump upgrade, I too asked the service representative to do the TSB referenced flash. He agreed with no hesitation at all, thus my opinion that another place may not be so dicktified.

Anyone going into a Tacoma knows its slightly underpowered. It's behavior on the highway today was basically the same as it was when I test drove it on the highway in 2019. I've come to know what to expect from my truck and drive it in ways to minimize minor nuisance downshifting on the highway. I may not even get the TSB if its hitting MPG like some say it does.

My 2013 had the same thing. Any slight change in elevation needed more than normal throttle modulation. Much less needed in my 3rd gen. I attribute that to the horsepower.

I'm sorry to hear about your shitty dealers. I was very apprehensive when I went to get the Fuel Pump/Radar done that my dealer would give me shit. I printed out the TSB and handed it to him, he asked me my symptoms, I said something along the lines of "Hesitation and the other exact symptoms on the TSB" and they did it no problem (Middletown Toyota in CT).

The TSB has made a huge difference, it drives like you would expect it to and it doesn't "lug" anymore.
