Hi guys, I took my sliders off yesterday and I guess I put the bolt on the bottom of the frame in too tight last year, because both of them broke. I sprayed them with WD40 rust release but they wouldn't give. One broke at the head so I have to get it out of the hole now. The other broke the welds inside the frame. I had to grind a wrench to fit in the hole in the cross member to hold the nut and continue to turn the bolt out.

The cross member that is right above the bolt seems to be held in with 4 rivets on each side. What is the reason for the bolt? Am I safe driving the truck with out these bolts?

I've got the gay-r-b its the cousin to the arb. It's dual piston mounted in a hard carrying case which is dust proof. It works in the rain and has a duty cycle of around .25% which is industry leading. It has been fully tested by the French. It can fill a citroen tire up from 10psi to 20psi tres, rapidy..it's custom made and might be used to fill the luner module rover lander buggy thing tires so they might take it to Mars... anyway that's what I's gots.

The bolt on the bottom is the one where the weld of the nut (to the left) broke.

This is the hole in the bottom of the frame and the crossmember above it.

    upload_2020-12-31_12-18-31.jpg
You can see the rivets in the vertical part of the frame.

This is the crossmember in question.

The MK4's are pretty cool, used to dislike them but they grew on me, a crazy amount of parts available.

It's an annual event, euro-only type show, the location changes sometimes. It used to take place in the Guelph conservation area but the last couple years they moved further south towards Sarnia I think for a drag strip.

Tons of cool builds to look at.

Why don't you just put a regular nut & bolt through the hole? Use stainless if you want to be fancy.

That same bolt on my frame has been mangled by rocks already, either at Minden or VMUTS.

I never really paid any attention to the MK4 VW scene till my kid got one. I helped him build it and it got me kinda hooked.
I've always been a German car fan...I absolutley love my wife's 300C. One I've the most balanced cars I've ever had.

That's the plan, but I don't have any right now and I still have to get the broken bolt out, so there will be a little while before I can get that done. That's why I asked if it was safe to drive without the bolts in. If the rivets aren't strong enough on their own why not rivet the bottom too? Why would Toyota put a bolt on the bottom?

Getting the bolt out with the nut loose inside the crossmember was a real pain. The wrench keeps slipping off the nut due to the angle. So I'll be trying to find a tall nut to replace it.

Love the german stuff too..I had a two-door MK6 Golf with the 5cyl engine, small mods nothing crazy,

I was looking at a manual Alltrack before a Tacoma and couldn't believe how much it felt like a civic, the VW quality took a dive after the Mk6 generation..

    only pic I have availableDSC_0113.jpg

Could be lack of jaw access for the automatic riveting machine at the frame plant :notsure:

It's probably OK to putt around town, but not hard use (towing, bombing down a trail).
Did you try a socket in lieu of a wrench? Impact driver on the bolt head helps, too. The resi mount for my rear shocks ended up at a crossmember, too, but I was able to reach the nut with a socket to tighten it. An offset wrench might work as well if you got one.

Nature Narcs is what we called them when I was...lets say, under age for voting. They always showed up at the sound of a brown pop bottle "pssshhhhttt" opening out in the woods.

    Fucking Narcs

Can anyone tell me which skids I'd be able to use on an access cab if they came from a dclb? 4-piece ifs/mid/transfer/gas

I assume front and gas for sure
