We've got at least 2.5 more months until consistently warmer temps

I ride when I can. Cold and clear, don’t care. Rain the freezing...bike gets covered. I don’t mind it getting wet, just not when it’s followed by freezing temps. Don’t want any standing water freezing and causing problems. Life without a garage sucks...

How about a pulley and sand? I guess copper is a little easier than 1/16" steel too..

I'd be concerned about that out of spec valve that's already too tight. I know this isn't something you want to hear but you really should adjust that one before riding season. I don't recall seeing this posted but how many miles are on the bike? If the valve seat has worn enough to have one too tight already the rate of wear should be a concern. You don't want to go into next year and the good riding weather and burn that valve because you didn't feel like adjusting it when you had the chance. You can spend a little time now or possibly a bunch of time and money later. Just my .02

Bike has 42,000 miles on it. Rate of wear is definitely not a concern on it hah it took a long ass time to get tight. And like I said, it's barely out of spec, I don't think there's any risk of burning the valve at the moment. It's a hemispherical shim under bucket design and is pretty stable, clearance wise. This would be the first adjustment on it, ever. The hemispherical shims are a PITA though, I can't just go out and buy a UJM shim kit and have it ready to go. You have to remove, measure, calculate, then order what you need and wait for it to come in.

I see. Sucks about the specialized shims anyway. Well BMW does stand for "Bring More Wallet". First shims to be changed on my '07 FJR1300 didn't occur until 116k on it.

Yup, ain't that the truth. If they were cheap I'd just order a smattering and have them ready to go, but they're $10 a piece and range from 4.6 to 5.7 in .05 steps. That'd be a lot of change for a just in case. I need to call down to my nearest BMW shop and see if their repair dept stocks and/or exchanges them. That'd be way too convenient.

its not exactly apples to apples, but I worked for BMW for 20+ years(automotive), the early M motors used shims, we stocked a supply for the techs, but we would not be exchanging them over the counter. Don't think we sold that many(if any) over the counter, exactly for the reason you stated.
