Well, in my case, it seems to be the inner tie rod right where it attached to the rack... or perhaps in the rack itself... I’m not taking it apart to find out

Clunking and play in the whole spindle...

Correlated to play at the inner tie rod.

Old rack out. New rack going in tomorrow.

@deekyn you’ll basically have a brand new truck after with all the stuff you’ve been doing recently.

She’s a bionic woman now? :transformer:

Thanks to using it like a truck and living in the rust belt....

2020 was a lot of work on the truck for sure:
    - New lower control arms (that involved a sawzall to cut the siezed cam bolts)
    - New bushings and uniball on the UCA
    - New u joints and carrier bearing (and new slip yoke since I was less than delicate when reinstalling it )
    - New spherical bearings on shocks
    - Shock rebuild (literally twice the same year, fuck you performance off road... this time the coilovers are going for a revalve and rebuild at Accutune like they should have the first time, and I am rebuilding the rears myself in a week or two)
    - New rotors and break pads
    - Turned the drums and new brake shoes
    - New fuel pump
    - New mass air flow sensor, since my was literally melted :notsure:
    - New steering rack and outer tie rods
    - adding supports and repainting the roof rack.
    I’m sure I’m forgetting stuff

    Also put on:
    - Rear HC bumper
    - Archive garage hammer hangers and cross bar
    - Gusseted spindles
    - RCI skids
    - Aggressively sound deadened most of the interior

2021 will be more adventures and wheeling and (hopefully) less truck maintenance days. :mudding:

Does anyone live in Hatch, Deming, Cruces area? Or in this area? Got a crane hunt Jan 1-2 and wondering what the birds are looking like

Man I’m amazing. The best Tacoma mechanic that ever lived!

or not... But the steering rack swap went so well it was shocking. 2.5 hours yesterday to remove it and about an hour and a half to install. I can’t believe how well it went.

Steering wheel is straight, the truck tracks straight. And it fixed the elusive clunking I couldn’t quite figure out.

Since it took less time than I thought, I changed the front and rear diff oil too.

    So shiny!

Plus my new spacer lift showed up! Tomorrow, I’ll pull my coilovers and send them off for revalving and rebuild in Cali. And put on my amazing used oem coilovers ( @Taco505 ) and spacer lift.

    spacer lift fo life!

This is to the guy in the third gen cement Tacoma who was driving way to fast on FR376 Sunday. Slow your ass down on a well traveled road.
You scared my wife really bad. Don't know how we avoided a wreck.

Hey All, I bought a '17 TRD OR this spring and I've been having some fun driving it and looking at mods for the future. I'm usually pretty busy between work and school but I have a little time off before the spring semester starts. I went out alone yesterday and kept it pretty tame but it would be nice to go with someone else! Is anybody planning a drive in the next couple weeks and wouldn't mind a tag along? Here's a shot from yesterday.

Yeah man, I’m way out in the sticks now. Just last year I was living in the West Mesa past of Abq. A bunch of the guys in this thread are in Abq though. Cedro peak is a fun little trail run near Tijeras. If you’re headed down to the Gila for some wheeling sometime I’d be down though lol

I'm familiar with the mountain biking at Cedro and that's where I took the truck for it's first dirt. I hear Rio puerco is fun too? I was considering heading toward soccoro/Magdalena this weekend to explore a bit more, dunno about all the way to the Gila though. Thanks for the advice!

Hey man welcome! We try and have a monthly brewery meet the first Thursday of the month but considering the way things have been we haven’t been meeting much. Hopefully things start to get a little better and we can start meeting again. Otherwise it seems like others are getting out pretty often but more so on their own lately.

In reserve now? No wonder we haven’t seen much of you lately but I’d like to get back down to the Gila once it starts warming up.

I little short notice but a couple of us are thinking about running Cedro tomorrow if you’re interested shoot me a pm and we can chat.

Puerco is cool there is a lot of opportunity to make it as difficult as you want. I might be interested in heading that way sometime soon and I’m sure I can get a couple others to join.

If you’re looking for some wheeling look into gordys hill near Socorro. Again I think a few of us may plan a day tip down there soon.

Also the Gila is a great place to explore plenty of places to wander around if you plan on heading down there in the future I can give you some cool routes.

I can give you some routes in each place just let me know and I’d be happy to help.

Which day would you go? If I can it would be Sunday.
I can't seem to send a PM. As I just saw this I guess I might be too late, my bad. When are you guys going again?

I’m interested as well. In the ABQ area but would like to find some more areas to explore. Spent a lot of time this summer in Jemez/Cuba and Valle Caldera area day tripping.

My schedule is pretty busy as well so I have to try and plan them out as much as possible.

I’m excited to start from scratch again. Already started buying some stuff, and the truck hasn’t even left yet. Thinking about going 35s but maybe a wide 33 is enough after searching around
