2021 Treat Your Tacoma to Ethanol Free Gasoline

Ethanol free gasoline is a bit more expensive but start the New Year out right with a few fill ups of ethanol free gasoline.

Runs spunky, responsive, and better MPGs.

I tried that a few months back, truck did not like it.

 

There is a place close to me that is ethanol free. I used to go there with the Jeep because the diesel price was lower and I needed the ethanol free gas when I still had gas power equipment.

I been by with the Tacoma and filled it once. I didn't notice any difference between non ethanol and the gas from BJ's wholesale club that's 30-40 cents a gallon cheaper.
Ethanol gas isn't going to make much difference in modern day vehicles as long as it's fresh.
Of course in engines with carburators or those not driven much it makes a difference and either way could call for a fuel stabilizer to be added.

 

I'd have to burn a tank a fuel just to get to a non ethanol fuel station without resorting to race gas let alone finding something lower than premium.

 

Ethanol in gasoline acts as a de-icer. Living in a northern climate, I'd just as soon have ethanol in the gas this time of year.

ethanol = 76,100 Btu/gallon

10% blend.
0.9*116,900 + 0.1*76,100=105,210+7,610 = 112,820

Energy reduction from 100% gasoline.
1-112,820/116,900 = 1-0.965 = 3.5%

Conclusion:
Running E10 reduces the energy per gallon by 3.5%.

 

I've been running ethanol free gas in all of our vehicles for several years: Ever since a Maverick gas station opened up that offered it. All of our vehicles--all Toyota/Lexus--responded very positively to the change. They ran better and got better mileage too. I totally support this idea.

 

All I want is for gas prices in CA to drop below $3.50 and for them to give us something better than 91 for cars that need premium

 

My wife’s Prius gets 50mpg all day long on the ethanol free gas when the stations where we live switch to the ethanol stuff her gas mileage drops to 45mpg. There’s a real difference between the two.

 

Sadly this message arrived way too late in the year for me to be running ethanol free.

At 12:01 I finished my whiskey and at 9:00 I mixed rum into my coffee. Maybe next year, fellas.

You are absolutely correct! Ethanol simply does not burn like gasoline in your engine. More like it doesn't burn at all, but I digress. If your current "fuel" contains 10% ethanol, your vehicle will get 10% worse mileage than it would with ethanol-free gas. A slight positive return on your investment of ethanol-free gas.

 

There is a difference between the two. Although, the energy difference is not close to 10%.

The energy in a gallon of fuel directly relates to mileage numbers.

BTW, ethanol does burn. Statement like "..... More like it doesn't burn at all,....." are grossly not accurate.

Gonna have to agree with this. I tried, after reading some positive accounts. Regular gas at the time was ~$2.7 a gallon, ethanol free was over $4 a gallon. I saw 1 additional mpg, so yeah, not really worth it.

 

If you look very closely at gasoline with ethanol blended in it, you'll see super duper small corn cobs floating around.

The more corn cobs, the greater the power and MPG, but your blinker fluid will be consumed at triple the rate and your automatic transmission fluid will be low from the factory.
