Downside to this type of upgrade is the reduction of crush zone and energy absorbing front end.

This could be devastating in the event of an accident to the truck and you.

Glad you are happy and excited about your creation.

Said the guy with a motorcycle in his profile pic, lol.
Pretty sure I'd rather be in OPs truck, big ass non-crumple-zone-compliant bumper notwithstanding, than on your admittedly cooler moto during a front end collusion!

Granted a motorcycle is not a safe vehicle in a crash. The best a rider can do is ride like every vehicle is out to kill him, he is invisible and wear all the protective gear (ie full helmet, amoured jacket and pants and gloves, armoured boots)

Think about how and why crush zones became a requirement. You need to go back to the early, early race car days. Open cockpits, big engines, open wheels......IIRC 1920-30s. Drivers would crash, car demolished. The car builders response was to make the car stronger and faster. It wasn't too long before the cars would survive and the driver would not.

Why do you think Indy 500 cars shatter into a million pieces? Each piece absorbs some of the impact energy to allow the driver to survive. Same applies to modern cars and trucks. The body is designed to absorb the impact energy so the passengers can survive.

When you begin making your truck stronger to resist damage, you are reducing its effectiveness in absorbing impact energy. This energy will be transferred to the occupants.

    Your choice.

A fact: There are more motorcycle accidents and injury when the motorcycle is rear-ended while sitting still in traffic. Essentially, the bike gets knocked out from under the rider. Not sure how effective a bumper on a motorcycle would be.

It's listed as off road for a reason. Impact is transmitted directly to you, your neck/back etc.
Also stock bumpers are designed for pedestrian and overall safety and might be an issue if you injure someone from modification, just my opinion from what I read on the internet, consult a legal professional.

Just giving you a hard time Knute!
I love motos and have ridden them for over 25 years, so know all about clueless blind drivers.
Your best advantage on a bike is, if you're keeping your eyes open in every direction at all times, is that you are a small target and have the maneuverability (up on the curb, or between vehicles...) to avoid shite.
But yeah, bumpers on cycle are pretty useless, as you are pretty much the crumple zone out there.

As far as worrying about loss of safety elements not engineered into the mods we want- so long as they're done correctly- they are not more worrisome than the driving around places that compelled us to mod it up in the first place. If you take my meaning. Driving off-road for fun poses a ton of unnecessary risk!

Have you used those recovery points? Looks like they are welded on to a plate that’s 90 degree to another plate. Looks a little dicey.

Yes, I have used them. That photo does make them look suspect for sure. If you look at post 49 here you can get a better idea of how they are actually welded. Could they be better? No doubt. They are only rated at 10,000 pounds.

Sorry, didn’t read the whole thread. Definitely better base than I originally thought. Hope you enjoy the bumper.

Imo, it looks a bit goofy...appears the trucks growing a mustache, but if you like it, its all that matters.
