Hello everyone, has anyone with a 2015 Tacoma had to get their frame replaced? I'm trying to see if this is worth looking into. I dont want future frame problems. I live in Utah for reference. L

Whether or not your frame gets replaced is not your decision. It's Toyota's. (Unless you want to replace it yourself.) In order to put the ball in their court, you need to have a dealership inspect your frame. If it passes - and they may do a special rust prevention treatment with that inspection - you're covered for 12 years from the first in-service date. If you don't get it inspected, all bets are off.

Just take care of it then and you won’t have any issues. Spray down after driving in salt and use some FF.

Mine had a frame replacement in 2015 and was originally in New York. It’s been in Utah since just about the frame replacement and it’s holding strong with no problems. I wonder if you happen to still have a different coating of some sorts.

I work at a Toyota dealership and trust me, there's no significant change to the finishing / painting / coating process. What has changed is the internal corrosion protection process applied at dealerships. The latest process actually looks pretty good.

My brother just got his frame replaced on an 03 Tundra. It had plenty of miles on it and the bed hit the cab one morning. Lol this is a hunting truck that basically sits on the farm. We were ready to scrape her or somehow tie the frame back together. Someone said they had a recall. Boom new frame and a bunch of minor parts and bushings and the farm truck is a good driver again.

Certain parts of my frame look good, but others looks iffy. The worst of everything is the lower control arms. Ill take some pictures and upload them here for everyone to look at.

If it's just your lowers, just keep an eye on the classifieds here or locally. Plenty of folks offloading stock lowers when they go LT or with aftermarket stock length replacements. I just sold mine locally to a guy that had some rusty lca's too.

That is good to know. I'm going to take some pictures of the concerning parts of my frame later and see what you guys think.

    Please do,

I have a 2015 I purchased new and have @60K on it, I honestly hoped the frame rusting was something I would never have to worry about. I live in Western NC if that helps.

The only thing that determines if you get a new frame is if there is a rust hole 10mm or larger. It doesn’t matter to them what the frame looks like. The most common place for a hole to appear is near the catalytic converters. Crawl under there and look. It just floors me when people come on here and say, “I live in NY. Toyota inspected my frame 5 years ago and said it was fine. Now, they say there’s a 3” hole in the frame, it’s unsafe to drive, and they won’t do anything about it. I’m pissed at Toyota.”

Also worth mentioning is that for the ‘11-‘17 WEP, you must get Toyota to do the CRC treatment in order to be covered for 12 years.

There’s going to be a lot of Taco owners crying the blues in 2-8 years when their frames are rusted out and they say, “I didn’t know I had to have the CRC treatment in order to qualify. Toyota never sent me a letter. I’m pissed at Toyota.”

Rusty lower control arms is not a criteria for Toyota replacing the frame. (Neither is the opinion of folks on the internet.) As @Muddinfun has stated, get your truck inspected (and coated) at a Toyota dealership. If you do, you're covered for 12 years. If you don't, you'll be sorry.

Shouldn't be a problem in North Carolina. The problem is in states that use road salt. Like where I live for instance.

What exactly is the CRC application?

Without getting too deep into the details, they basically clean the box sections, descale them, dry them, then apply a corrosion inhibitor before installing a number of plugs to keep moisture out. Well worth the time and effort. Besides, it's free.

So the rust portions on my frame would be essentially removed?
